About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To Travel A Bit Before I Settle Down

ABOUT ME

My best friend, Kate, would probably say I'm lots of fun to be around. That I have awesome hair and make every gathering a fun time. Of course, she's my best friend, so if she didn't, that would be weird.

I'm originally from the Deep South - Louisiana, though I don't have an accent. Or I do and everyone is just too plum nice to point it out directly. I just finished a B.A. in English Literature, focusing in Creative Fiction writing and Africana Literature. I hope to become an author in the same vein as Octavia Butler, Toni Morrison, and Henry Dumas.

With me, you can expect frequent gushing about Fantasy/Sci-Fi and political discourse of the liberal near anarchist persuasion.

PHILOSOPHY

I postpone death by living, by suffering, by error, by risking, by giving, by losing. - Anais Nin

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE

How I participate in what? The Iditarod? With a sled team, of course.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I haven't...yet. One day I would love to host travelers. I love sharing with people.

Interests

I'm a writer, so I spend a lot of time reading. That makes zero sense, I know. Getting inspiration, working (a lot), and finishing up school. I like thrifty fashion, but am known to splurge once in a while.

I've been doing a lot of community work here in New Orleans. I've been working as a volunteer after-school teacher. I'm up for a teaching position via AmeriCorps, which will place me in Boston for two years.

Music, Movies, and Books

Alien, Aliens, there are no sequels to these films that involve the death of central characters.

I'm very eclectic in my musical tastes, even country, as I love the storytelling motive of the classics. Really big fan of Motown, but I'm also the biggest Kanye West fan in the world. A friend is introducing me to classic metal, so that's new. My favorite books are Toni Morrison's Song of Solomon and Neil Gaiman's American Gods. Favorite classic is Huck Finn.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I think the most amazing thing I've ever experienced is the simplicity of a good bottle of wine and friends who would rather be with you than anywhere in the world. I'm a simple Southern girl, what can I say?

Teach, Learn, Share

Urine does not aid in helping jellyfish stings. Seinfeld, or whatever 90s sitcom it was, lied to you.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Knowledge, book recommendations, recipes. Letting me couchsurf entitles you to at least one of my Grandma's Creole dishes.
