About Me
CURRENT MISSION
To understand the complexities of sociotechnical systems and utilize this understanding in systems design. Hey, I'm a Ph.D. student for a reason.
ABOUT ME
Work hard, play hard, and my son is my life. He lives with me part time. When he's around, my couch is off limits (sorry, not taking risks around him). When he's not, pretty much anybody's welcome as long as I'll be around. I do travel a fair amount, though typically to the same old places. Hence the "maybe" status.
PHILOSOPHY
I like the golden rule (do to others what you would have them do to you) and it's variants. If I'm dissatisfied with the world, it's my duty to do something about it, or I should sit down and shut up; and the way to start doing something about the world is locally. It's better to act as a group than as an individual, but you should never give up your individual values just to maintain group membership. Don't trust other people to give you ideas--figure it out for yourself, even if you are wrong a lot, and it takes years upon years. Hear their ideas, but don't trust them until you've thought things through.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I've seen the fog boil up from the Mississippi River at night while standing on the riverwalk in the New Orleans French Quarter in March. If you've never seen it, you've missed an incredible natural phenomenon that occurs in the middle of an urban environment.
