I live with my grandma in Melbourne :)
I have a degree in International Politics & Anthropology, and am currently doing my Honours thesis for Anthropology.
I work two jobs; for one, I’m building a dating app, and for the other, I do data analysis.
I am a writer. Checkout my stuff here: https://link.medium.com/6NkRXNmQTeb
I am also pretty active on Twitter too: https://mobile.twitter.com/spencerbm98
✈️ In any spare moment I have, I immediately leave Australia and travel! I love connecting with different people and learning from experiences; travel is the best way I’m able to do this! It also helps give me practical knowledge for my course in which I’m majoring in — Anthropology (about human cultures).
In 2019 I completed a 6 week volunteering course in Indonesia helping to advocate and assist the health rights of the kids and also improve the economic development of a village.
🏻 I have spent a lot of the last few years volunteering in Aged Care and children’s care in Australia.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
There shouldn’t be too many expectations, but, as I say, “the currency of Couchsurfing is REFERENCES”. I put a lot of effort into writing my references for people I meet, so I really hope they can do the same.
🏽 Otherwise, I love Couchsurfing because it’s all about becoming apart of and spreading the human chain of kindness :)
🏼🏽I want to have new and unique experiences, especially by learning from amazing people! I believe that cultural awareness is one of the best things for humanity!
I enjoy applying all of my cultural experiences and YOUR cultural stories and experiences in class at University, as I’m studying Anthropology.
I LOVE having new ideas and applying them to the world!! I’ve been known to wake up spontaneously at 3am and write a story, or get all excited when my mind thinks of new things!
- humanitarian relief
- last minute travel
- social justice
- learning new things
- doctor who
- trance music
Music, Movies, and Books
I have a habit of listening to music from very different genres // depending on my mood it could be classical or rock or trance or even Latino for a good dance.
Specifics >>> Ludovico Einaudi, Coldplay, Beyoncé, Lady Gaga, Emma Hewitt, Gareth Emery, Celine Dion.
Absolute favourite films are ‘Cloud Atlas’ and ‘Moonlight’!!!!
I’ve bought a lot of books, but am a bit slow with reading them all (can someone help haha!?).....they’re always non-fiction books, because I believe that if I fill my brain with something, it should be something that increases my knowledge and hopefully wisdom!! I keep this philosophy close to a lot of my actions: thus why I also don’t drink.
To the point: I like Nietzsche, any theology and apologetics, and simply academic articles.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
1️⃣ MET THE ROYAL SULTAN OF BRUNEI!!!
2️⃣ Hitchhiked 1,500km of Oman!
3️⃣ Hiked 70km in the Andes of Peru!! So beautiful.
4️⃣ Successfully have visited all the countries in East and South-East Asia (including being 127m from the boarder of North Korea).
5️⃣ Traveled the Middle-East for 6 months and relied solely on Couchsurfing!!!
Teach, Learn, Share
🧠 I am fascinated by cultural differences around the world and how they compare — as I travel and meet more people I am eager to share and learn more about this, so that hopefully I can become a more open minded and accepting person.
What I Can Share with Hosts
A unique perspective on the world, from a young free spirit (I hope)!! Nietzsche and Jesus are pretty awesome too.
I think I break quite a lot of stereotypes and preconceived notions.
‼️ You may also notice that I really am a genuine Couchsurfer. I only visit cities if I have a host, because I find that I learn more about the culture by being with a local person than visiting places alone (for example). Also, if people use Couchsurfing to arrange tours and going to place for a price, then I don’t accept. I’m perfectly happy to pay money for things, but the philosophy of Couchsurfing is about kindness and human connection and cultural experience (not experience for a price, like tours).
