About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Coexistence...il s'agit de réapprendre comment se parler

ABOUT ME

Finished up the old undergrad in Religious & Environmental Studies (quite the combo deal I know;) at OttawaU after spending some time farming over in Benin, West Africa - insightful, formative experience it was...& An experience which has certainly given me an even greater desire to explore our diverse world and humanity, and something couchsurfing certainly helps to facilitate.
During my uni days, I lived in Ottawa in intentional community, a big house, of young adults from various faith backgrounds/philosophical traditions. We call it faith house, feel free to check out our wordpress to see whats going on: http://faithhouseottawa.wordpress.com/
(Also have a couchsurfing profile just for the house, and though I'm no longer there in the flesh, the couch should still be surfable:)
We strive to be a safe space, (LGBTQ+ Friendly & Affirming) live out the values of radical hospitality and inclusion, grounded in principles of anti-oppression & social justice, and engage with those in our local and global communities to further dialogue, peace and compassion. Though I certainly fall short, I try to live these values out on a personal level & challenge myself to have a deeper understanding and appreciation for what that means.

We live on unseated Algonquin Territory.

We all have a story to share; I love people and meeting new people & look forward to meeting you!
I don't need much to lay my head for the night, a clear patch of floorboards is more than enough:)

Since September Egypt has been home as I have a kick at learning Arabic and have joined the community of Anafora, a farm and retreat centre in the desert just north of Cairo, for about a year as a volunteer. A very hospitable people and thousands of years of history, tradition, human civilization to discover and understand, Egypt is a beautifully rich country and I'm loving every minute so far.

PHILOSOPHY

Life is short...faisons que ça compte.
You learn just as much talking with people in the street, going to a mosque, volunteering at a night shelter, as you do in a classroom...

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

We've hosted some awesome surfers, mainly from europe and other canadians...only a positive experience. More recently, and purely by chance, while doing some last minute studying on the steps of the cathedral back in Lille, crossed paths with a pilgrim as he called himself, a young german man, who has been walking across Europe since february (5000+km's on about 500euros). A fascinating guy on on a remarkable journey who definitely deserved a mattress and a shower at my place more than me before heading off to belgium the next day. La vie est belle.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Slept in a box & on a box (two separate occasions)

Teach, Learn, Share

Learning how to co-exist in an increasingly global society; how to rediscover our shared human dignity and appreciate the beauty of diversity...how does that happen in reality? If I've learned anything, I think it happens by using the gift of language...learning how to talk to one another as human being again...a grassroots opportunity that couchsurfing provides.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Some good engaging conversation, maybe read to eachother if you're into that, cook a nice meal... & talk about the world and try to solve its problems all is one night of course!
