ABOUT ME

I'll try anything once, as long as there isn't too much potential for it to kill me. My life at work is fairly structured and a bit hectic, so at home I like to loosen the reins... I generally try to take a few steps back and simply experience life.

When I travel I like to go without much of a plan and just see where the adventure takes me.

PHILOSOPHY

I believe the purpose of life is to experience, and because of that, we should strive to not only experience, but to also enhance the experience of others. We should do anything and everything that makes us happy, as long as those things don't hurt others or take away from the experience of others. Additionally, I think it's good to sometimes do the things we find frightening...I sometimes find travel to be somewhat terrifying, and in that, completely invigorating.

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Surfing and attending events/activities. I haven't been able to host as much as I'd like due to being on the road a lot for work, and due to previous living situations not being suitable... But my schedule has been better lately, so let's do this!

Interests

I make my living as a commercial pilot, and though I'm passionate about flying, my true passion is music.

I've played the drums since I was 10, and I'm in two active bands in Chicago... I also help run a DIY art/music collective. This all keeps me pretty busy. I'm a fairly avid hiker, and I love to ski and snowboard--I even worked a season as a ski/board instructor when I was in College. I'm fond of motorcycles, and I have one which I'll ride anytime the Chicago weather permits. I can even take you for a ride around town if you're up for it, no stress whatsoever if motorcycles aren't your thing.

Music, Movies, and Books

Oy... Too much to list. Music: Of Montreal, Sparks, XTC, Talking Heads, Todd Rundgren, Television, David Bowie... I dunno... Off-kilter stuff.

I actually went to school for music, majoring in vocal performance of all things...although my singing is now mainly limited to the shower.

Books, well... Bukowski, Vonnegut, Bradbury, Nabokov. I'd like to read more philosophy, but unfortunately it literally makes me fall asleep.

Teach, Learn, Share

Well, I'm a certified flight instructor... so I can teach you about airplanes. You can also hop on the drumset here and I could maybe show you a thing or two. I also have a lot of really random facts floating around in my head, and sometimes they come out unexpectedly.
