Trying to decide what to do when I grow up
ABOUT ME
I am a fan of history and architecture, travel photography, and exploring local sights and famous landmarks. I enjoy cultural activities (museums, theater, concerts, and just absorbing the local scene). I try to participate in local customs and activities wherever I happen to be. And I like good food, good wine, good coffee, and good people to accompany all of the above.
PHILOSOPHY
"If you reject the food, ignore the customs, fear the religion and avoid the people, you might as well stay home." "To live in the world without becoming aware of the meaning of the world is like wandering about in a great library without touching the books."

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
I joined CouchSurfing in 2009. All my experiences have been great, and I have learned a lot from my hosts and guests. I look forward to many more opportunities to participate in CouchSurfing.

Music, Movies, and Books
Books: I enjoy "page turners" particularly if they are historical novels or non-fiction. Over the years many of my favorites were penned by Dan Brown, James Michener and Leon Uris. Recent favorites are two by Ken Follett: "World Without End" and "The Pillars of the Earth". After 2,000 pages, I hated saying goodbye to all the characters. A particularly revealing and poignant non-fiction chronicle is "The Rape of Nanking" by Iris Chang. Movies: I like any movie that is not predictable; anything quirky, moving, and oftentimes mindless comedy. I also like hard-hitting documentaries such as those by Michael Moore. Music: My taste in music has mellowed as I have aged, but I love live performances of just about any kind of music.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Dawn in Australia's Red Centre - being mesmerized as the rising sun applied brilliant color and texture to the face of Uluru (Ayers Rock). It is easy to see why the monolith is sacred to the Aboriginal people, and continues to inspire visitors to the present day.
