To grasp my life in my hands and not let too much of it slip through my fingers.

ABOUT ME

Mid-30s, chill, queer. I work in corporate settings. I perform spoken word/performance poetry/~3 minute monologues as a passion or hobby (take your pick) and pursuing that has taken me across much of North America and into the company of some truly remarkable people.

PHILOSOPHY

I've developed an almost isolationist ethic over the past few years. I'd be very happy if my garden provided me with at least 25% of my daily calories as a regular thing. I want to raise bees and chickens, and probably will over the next couple of years. My corporate job takes time away from these passions, which I regret, but funds many of the things I love, which I appreciate.

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

For the moment, this is a housing option for upcoming travels. I imagine over time I'll become more involved and open up to hosting.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I camped my way across America in 2008 on a three month long spoken word and music tour, occasionally crashing out at what we call "poet lodging" -- the informal network of poets/poetry lovers who open their homes to traveling poets.

Live performance, poetry, traveling, cool words, using ordinary words in cool ways, humor, gardening, food, cooking, pickling, home brewing, good beer, red wine, plants and animals, weird biological facts, the strict avoidance of soy in my own diet (I don't care what you eat).

I don't own a TV but keep up with some shows on Hulu. I like a lot of different styles of music, and I read whatever's around, sometimes twice. I don't like horror movies. I actually don't watch a lot of movies at this point. Lacking a TV, I don't get marketed to very much, so I don't know what's playing most of the time.

Sunrise on the highway in Utah after an all-night drive, 22 hours after leaving Tehachapi. Bouldering at the Vedavou rocks in Wyoming. Catching a trout in Iowa. Coming home again.
