About Me

I'm a family man: six kids, two still at home--but after all these years, finally an empty bedroom to host guests! Two kids married now, with our first grandchild close by. I'm a follower of Jesus, and that's important to me. If you stay with us and want to talk about that, great; but if not, that's fine too.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Love to travel; interested in staying in homes in other countries and getting to meet people who live there. It's also fun to host people in our home and get to know them a little bit.

Interests

I love travel and exploring, and new experiences, places, cultures, and people. I'm more interested in exploring nature and the countryside than big city life. I love gardening, yardwork, hiking, camping, and enjoying a beautiful view. We live in farm country, and I've always felt like a farmer at heart, even though I've never been one. (Three of my kids work at a local dairy farm, though.) I love history, especially ancient history, and it's great fun for me to learn more about that when I travel.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I've always loved adventure, so have done lots of fun things over the years: jumping out of a perfectly good airplane with a parachute (twice); crawling through narrow tunnels and tight squeezes in many a cave; hiking (alone) to 17,000' in Peru and camping at the foot of a glacier; serious whitewater rafting in West Virginia; multi-day canoe camping trips in northern New York; hiking all 46 high peaks in the Adirondacks; riding a camel up Mt. Sinai by the light of the moon to see the sunrise from the top; wading through knee-deep water with a candle through Hezekiah's Tunnel in Jerusalem; watching someone skin a cat (to eat!) in Haiti; snorkeling in the Florida Keys; a raft ride along the Napali coastline in Hawaii; taking my family ziplining in New Hampshire; taking a boat an hour out into the ocean to explore Monhegan Island in Maine; coming within three feet of a mature bighorn sheep high up on a mountain in Montana; horseback riding to the rim of a volcano in Guatemala; winter camping at 20 below in the dead of winter far from a road in New York's Adirondacks.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I'd like to tell you about life in rural Lancaster County, PA, home of the Amish and Pennsylvania Dutch cooking. I'd love to tell you about some of the places I've visited, if you're interested. I have a special interest in Bible prophecy as it sheds much light on the times in which we live--if that's of interest to you, that's something we could talk about.
