PHILOSOPHY

"Ad Astra" is a mantra I picked up on years ago. In Latin, it means "to the stars". I think it sums up my interest in flight, the heavens, and a personal life-long journey dedicated to ever-expanding knowledge of the nature of our world and the people within it. I think there is Beauty and Truth to be found in everything and everyone, if we only are patient and willing enough to find it or let it find us. I think peace is a byproduct of love, kindness, openness, understanding, forgiveness, and genuine regard for everything and everyone we come into contact with.

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Just getting started with this, so until I get settled in Jersey this fall I'll be trying out the couch surfing side.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

An awesome guy I met through a Land Rover connection took me in for a few days in Dallas while my truck was being worked on at a local shop. He was a 757 captain for a major airline, and was able to give me some great insight on the airline industry and life as an airline pilot. His place was basically a pilot's crash pad and routinely random aircrews stay the night while waiting for their next flight out of DFW. The positive experience got me really interested in couchsurfing/hosting in the future.

Interests

I'm very much into the outdoors. Hiking, climbing, backpacking, camping, float trips, etc. I also enjoy flying, reading, singing without shame in the shower, car, and any other time I can. Learning as much as I can about spirituality and personal journeys is a continuing motivation. Finding peace and expressing good will. Opening myself to new points of view.

Music, Movies, and Books

I like Jack Kerouac, Hemingway, and a laundry list of other authors who write with passion and without apology about the extremes of human existence. I like all kinds of music, but especially love finding new indie rock bands. Current favorites are the Decemberists and The Mountain Goats. As far as movies, I like epic Westerns, classic movies (especially about aviation), dramas and romance, and most especially cerebral indie films. I'm drawn to darker themes like unrequited love, loss of loved ones, and dark night of the soul types. I think this is a reflection of my emotional intensity.
