About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Sleepy world domination - one day, we will all take naps

ABOUT ME

A long time ago I told myself that I wasn't going to go to school, that I'd just travel. But then, I was a cautious creature and figured there was a smart way to do it.. and so buried those gypsy roots. I went to school, then went to work, then back to school again. All that schooling, all those days of toiling sweating brains have somehow brought me back to that little creature who looks out and says - there's more than this.

PHILOSOPHY

Life is short. Too short. We're all on this planet, running around and trying to find some sort of sense of purpose that's going to let us live our lives in peace. At least, that's what it seems the american dream has led me to believe; that I'll finish school, move out into the suburbs, and then get married and buy a house with a white picket fence and a kidney shaped pool and I'll be quietly happy, while my sweet crew-cut husband goes out to work in the mornings and brings home the bacon at night.

But that's not it. It's not a question of settling, it's not meant to be an existence of rotting away in the backwoods of a track-house development - it's a question of exploring the dangerous places, trying weird and strange things, riding on a bike instead of taking a car, flying a kite instead of sitting around the house.

I want my life to be lived in the pursuit of passion and love and art, and may the consequences be damned.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

It's been a few years! I have travelled some, but never hosted - here's to a next year full of travelers and new faces.

Right now I'm looking for a little place to settle down in with my man Shilo - find a little corner of the world to meet some kind folks with healthy ideas, and then to open up our house to those looking for a place to lay their heads for a few days.

The idea behind the CS project is wonderful to me. everyone's a little scared to go out in the world and travel, but I think having people you know will help you out with a soft place to lay your head makes the leap off the edge into the big wide world a little less nervewracking and that much more rewarding!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Through france on my own, in spain with friends. all good times, and all good people

Interests

Right now I'm working on a documentary about worker ownership, and the multitude of ways that it can save the world - yes, your world!! I've started painting, singing, playing guitar this year, writing short stories that can hold the attention span of a modern person who only has a few moments to spare.

I like to consider catastrophe, from all angles. what's the worst that can happen? no, really, think about it. sit down and consider it for a moment, live in the consequences of it, and consider the way you'd meet them. maybe it isn't as bad as you think

Music, Movies, and Books

Music

everything from afro electronica of Francis Bebey to sigur ros to distopian futuresounds of experimental noise jazz. One of my favorite groups is RDL+, a... jazz? trio from the SF bay area whose sounds are the sounds of an escaping storm. I prefer live music to recorded, and music where people are listening to each other to that where people are only listening to themselves.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I took the train from Beijing to Siberia, and rode through the gobi desert with some incredible ecotourists

Teach, Learn, Share

A human body can hold its breath for ten minutes

Mice are nocturnal, and laugh at supersonic frequencies

Dogs have different types of barks, we don't know why cats purr, and dolphins are actually emissaries of atlantis

I can teach you to knit, as well as Michael Jackson's Thriller dance.

your body is more bacteria than that which you call "I"

What I Can Share with Hosts

a lust for life, some guitar licks, delicious veggie recipes. ways to stretch and move your body for the maximal levels of health.
