About Me
CURRENT MISSION
To learn from everyone I meet, and hope that they continue to show me who I am
ABOUT ME
I am an open and honest person, loyal to my friends and always willing to talk and help people out, whether they need a place to stay, a good meal, or a beer. I'm willing to try anything new, and always game for a good adventure.
PHILOSOPHY
I live my life to learn and to help others. I love hosting anyone if only because I see where I live through new eyes. I think that's why I love to raft guide, even if I'm boating the same 5 mile stretch 50 times in a summer - it's new to the people in my boat, so it's new to me!
I have that impulse to take care of people, and will come to your aide if I see any sign of trouble.
I live in order to know people, however that happens, and whoever you are.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
Right now I'm hosting couchsurfers with my housemate, hoping to go some places this fall in between river and ski season!
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
I have never couchsurfed through this website, though I've surfed on some couches in my day belonging to friends, friends of friends, family of friends, and family. Most recently went to Mexico City with my cousin and stayed with some people she knew, who were excellent hosts/guides. Had the best tacos and Micheladas!
Recently my housemate, a CouchSurfer for quite some time, has been hosting people through the website, and so by association, I, too, have been hosting people. It's been awesome to meet young people traveling through Santa Fe for all different reasons. I am hoping to host more people on my own when he goes off on some new adventures.
Interests
I absolutely love getting outdoors, seeing the sunrise on some beautiful new landscape, and getting to good places by my own two feet. I raft guide in the summer, ski patrol in the winter, love to get on new rivers whenever I can, and do an early morning skin up a mountain after a big snow for freshies.
I am currently trying my hand at my first backyard garden, love to read a good book, and cook when I have the time. I've been trying to play the guitar since 8th grade, and I currently have a repertoire of 2 songs, so ask me and I'll play them both! I am a homebody, but I prefer living in smaller towns or the backcountry to big cities, though I love visiting the big uns for a couple days to discover their characters.
I'm currently pursuing becoming a doula and ultimately a midwife. I love to talk birth, babies, breastfeeding, vaginas, sex, love, community, family, alternative support systems, and anything else in between.

Music, Movies, and Books
I adore bluegrass, old-timey, folk, americana, and country music. I have Gillian Welch and the Decemberists and Lyle Lovett and Andrew Bird on repeat in my life. But I don't limit myself to just that huge set of music- I love me some LCD Soundsystem, Jose Gonzales, Beck, the Beta Band, and Radiohead. I can never get enough of Joanna Newsom, and if I ever have the chance to see her, I will.
I don't watch too many movies, honestly. With my home health care gig I've seen just about every romantic comedy ever made 5 times. Seriously, ask me about any Sandra Bullock movie and I can tell you everything you want to know. That said, my absolute favorite two movies ever are Before Sunrise and Before Sunset. Finding Nemo takes a close 2nd.
I do, however, watch a couple of tv shows. I can't get enough of Breaking Bad, and I will be sad to see it end soon. The Sopranos was phenomenal, and I will always have a soft spot in my heart for House, MD.
I went to a school where all we read were books. Lots of them. Probably my favorites from school were War and Peace, Go Down, Moses, and the Oresteia. On my own, I have read pretty much everything Edward Abbey and Annie Dillard have ever written, and can always go back and re-read their work. Fool's Progress is my favorite of Abbey's, and the Writing Life is my favorite of Annie's, though I have more favorite passages from many of her books than a single book itself.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Getting up early on one of my first overnight rafting trips in Southern Utah and watching the sun rise over the canyon and the way the light struck the water as it first got to the river. One of the most iconic memories I have was when a couple friends and I hiked up the mountain behind my college around midnight after a big snow, and as we hiked down we saw the moon set over the Jemez Mountains in Northern New Mexico.
