I was born in Damascus, Syria but was raised in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. I'm in my 40s, married to a wonderful Canadian Man.

I think that the impression I give when people first meet I might be a stand offish Muslim woman. Yes, I am a Muslim woman but I'm far from stand offish. What's really happening is that I am shy at first and suffer from anxiety. Once I open up, people are pleasantly surprised at how I'm open and accepting I am. I'd like to believe that I had an interesting life.

Faith is an important aspect in my life but that doesn't get in the way of meeting other people from all walks of life. It's something personal.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I want to be a source of peace in this chaotic world. I want to bridge gaps and clear misconceptions and misinformation out there.

Couch Surfing has been nothing but amazing... I've met the most wonderful people on earth. My life have been changed because of CS... Thank you guys for creating this site. It just open doors to bridge the gap and let the world see that we all can coexist.

Interests

I like to tell my and other people's stories. I believe storytelling is a powerful tool for us to understand one another and where we come from. Whether it is via creative writing, music or art, I create to express and connect.

Music, Movies, and Books

I LOVE anything fantasy like Lord of Rings and A Song of Ice and Fire (Game of Thrones). I love movies that make you think and I find Miyazaki (Studio Ghibli) films and some horror movies like The Babadook are great examples of that.

My favorite kind of music genre is contemporary classical music and movie/TV show/video games soundtracks. I listen to Ramin Djawadi (I met him), Hanz Zimmer, Max Richter, Sami Takieddin (My brother) etc.. I love 90s and early 2000s music. I love the nostalgia.

I wish I can read books. I always end up crashing no matter how engaging the material is. I guess the executive function demand is too high for my autistic brain and usually I need to sleep in order to recover and process the information.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

The most amazing thing I've done would be my biggest accomplishment till now. A Church musician in the US used one of my music pieces for the Church's service. It's the most amazing thing because we (A Christian and a Muslim) worked together to show how we truly can coexist.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can answer question about Arab Culture in general and Syria one specifically. Islamic culture is just an umbrella term that encompasses different Muslim cultures from around the world. For example Syrian Muslim culture isn't the same as Pakistani Muslim culture for example because with in these cultures that are different regional traditions thrown into the mix of what is Islamic. Having said all that not all Arabs are Muslim and vice versa. It's quite complex like the branches and roots of a tree.
