ABOUT ME

Shalom!

I am a native of Henan. Henan is the birthplace of Chinese civilization with over 5,000 years of history, and remained China's cultural, economical, and political center until approximately 1,000 years ago.

I have always suspected that my ancestors were Jewish. Not many people know about the Jews of Kaifeng. The Kaifeng Jews are members of a small Jewish community in Kaifeng, in the Henan province of China who have assimilated into Chinese society while preserving some Jewish traditions and customs.

My suspicion about my Jewish root was confirmed when a New York friend brought me some bagels and I thought that it was even better than fried rice :)

During the Ming Dynasty (1368–1644), a Ming emperor conferred seven surnames upon the Jews, by which they are identifiable today: Ai, Shi, Gao, Jin, Li, Zhang, and Zhao. Shi means stone, hence the origin of my name.

I could cook the best kosher Mala Tang east of Chengdu!
