About Me

I'm a nerd who happens to love motorcycles and making things. I love houses and old barns, and lately I've come to love old boarded up gas stations, too.

I'm a soft-spoken introvert who's trying to meet new people. I think a motorcycle adventure would be a great way to start.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

This spring I completely rebuilt my 1992 Yamaha Virago. It started out just being about making the seat and handlebars more comfortable, but it ended up being a total rebuild. It took me most of the summer, unfortunately, but there's still a lot of nice weather left.

I've been planning on taking this motorcycle on a long road trip all year, and now I'm about to do it. I have family in New Brunswick but I don't know anyone between there and Ontario. I'm here to meet people and hopefully find a place to stay.

The more places I can find to stay, the longer I can make my trip last, so that's the main reason I'm here. I also haven't met new people in a long time so I'm looking forward to that part as well.

Interests

Right now I don't really think about much else other than motorcycles and this trip. In general I like to make and fix things. Creating is important and it doesn't really matter what it involves, it's usually something I like. It could be something with woodworking or landscaping, papercraft or any of those sorts of things. I especially enjoy making things that don't necessarily exist already to solve a particular problem, to have to think about how to join materials that normally don't go together, for instance.

Music, Movies, and Books

I don't really watch a lot of movies but I do like a lot of comedy shows on TV. Sketch comedy, sitcoms, and mainly stand-up comedy performances. For music I like mainly rock, alternative, alternative country, and most genres derived or related to punk such as post hardcore and the like. These days I read so much on the internet that I really don't spend any time reading books anymore.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Apparently rebuilding an entire motorcycle by yourself with no training is impressive to some people that I've talked to. I am really proud of it.

Teach, Learn, Share

I like to learn anything related to building or crafting things, it doesn't really matter what. I spend a lot of time relearning the basic science things that I should've learned in school, and for which I now have much more interest.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I'm pretty handy and good at fixing most sorts of house things. I'm not too bad at working on old Japanese motorcycles, now. Really though I only know my bike but I'm sure a lot of it transfers.

I'm pretty good at cooking your average Canadian type food. I didn't grow up fancy so that means anything from Kraft Dinner with hotdogs in it, to actual proper meals. I really like roasted bone-in chicken breasts with steamed carrots, for instance.

Depending on where in my trip we meet I should have some nice stories to share. As an introvert I'll never be the life of the party, but I really enjoy talking with interesting people one-on-one or in a very small group.
