About Me
My own couch is too small to sleep on, but I have been able to host surfers in my spare room when it isn't rented out. My current roommate and I are preparing the den as a new space which we expect to have available soon.
A preschool director and teacher, a mom (of a college student), burgeoning circus student, avid adventurer, responsible homebody, listener of noisy music (I'll bring my headphones), and quiet gazer of nature.
I'm flexible and easy-going, yet understand, maintain and appreciate good boundaries, expectations, rules and common courtesy. (I have spent a lot of years modeling and teaching these skills with young children, their parents and my school staff.)
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
Life of a teacher: Poorly paid, yet constantly curious and adventuresome. I'm fairly new here, but I've met some great people so far!
I love meeting new people and exploring the corners and alleys of a new place. I'd never make it on a cruise ship; prefer the small, local, community vibe and discovering who and what pop up on the next corner. Gritty live music in a tiny dive a definite plus!
I also have a small house with plenty of room that I enjoy sharing with others. My only son is away at college, so the house feels a bit lonely. You could show up on a yard party weekend for barbecue and dancing on the patio. I love the place that I call home and usually can give a decent overview of events, hotspots and local choices.

Music, Movies, and Books
Reading: Long, re-readable sentences written by Russians, trying (poorly, surely) to translate poetry by Rilke and read more German in the original, Neil Gaiman and Philip Pullman. Some Americans who speak to me: TC Boyle, Barbara Kingsolver, Tom Robbins. Wondering why so many Couchsurfers list their favorite book as "1984"....
Listening: Recently rekindled the turntable and shopping the thrift/record shops with glee.
(Still can't make a list that will make sense to anyone but myself...)
Some recent record acquisitions: Iranian psychedelia from the 70's, an indie Canadian signed by the artist at his tiny show in Albuquerque, Bowie albums that would be considered completist if I were a collector as opposed to an opportunist, street recordings from Turkey in the 1950's, creepy children's albums.
Watching: Couple faves: American Beauty, Charade, The Conversation ....(Series): New Girl, Parks and Recreation, Taxi
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I started my own school and am celebrating year ten by buying us a home of our own this year.
(I recognize this doesn't paint me as a wild traveller, but it does show that I'm responsible and community-minded, I think.)
