About Me

CURRENT MISSION

My current mission is to become the best doctor I can be, meet as many people as I can, and make a difference in at least one life.

ABOUT ME

My name is Stephanie and I am a recent graduate from the University of Michigan. I am heading for medical school in August (Boston!). I love my major, biology (and all the nerdom that biology brings to my life), and am extremely active. Most of what I love to do in my spare time is sports related. I love boxing, and have competed for the last four years. I would say I am very independent, have been dubbed "strong" by most of the amazing friends I have met in my life, and err towards the liberal side of things. I am proud to consider myself a feminist, and I absolutely love turning stereotypes around in people's faces. My sense of humor is set on polar opposites: I love a corny pun (what do you call a bunch of rabbits in a line walking backwards? A RECEDING HARE LINE! HAHAHA), but I also am one of the most sarcastic people I know. I am trying every day to be more adventurous, and am super excited about moving to a brand new city and not knowing anyone very soon.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Haven't done couch surfing yet! I hope to get the chance.

Interests

Other than sports and boxing, I love relaxing with friends, eating (particularly pizza), and learning more and more about medicine. I am an advocate with the American Friends Service Committee criminal justice and am passionate about prisoner rights and prison reform. I spend a lot of time volunteering, and hope to continue to do so next year working with inner city patients. When I have time, T.V. is my vice.

Music, Movies, and Books

I love most science fiction, the Sword of Truth series (Wizard's First Rule), Hunger Games, Glass Castle, 1984, and so many more. My favorite movie is Lord of the Rings (all of them), and I love all Joss Whedon T.V. shows. I also love South Park.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Once when I was with my family in Ireland, we visited the Blarney Castle. What struck me, though, was not the castle, but the garden that resides just outside of it. In the garden (dubbed the "poison garden") are tons of plants that each tell a story. Some plants could kill you if you smell it. Others, if you eat it. I sat in the middle of this amazing garden, bewildered by the years of history and hidden plots behind each seemingly innocent plant. It was truly amazing to me.

One other time I've been awestruck is working as a volunteer at the University Hospital. I volunteer at the Children's Hospital- on the floor for children with cancer. I am awestruck at the strength and perseverance these children have in the face of the worst odds. Sometimes all it takes is seeing a ten year old with the maturity of a twenty year old from years of near death experiences to put everything into perspective. Each moment I spend with those kids is awe-striking.
