Sobre mí

CURRENT MISSION

Same as everyone else I guess! Trying to figure out where the hell I want to be and what I want to do with my life - and enjoy myself along the way! =)

ABOUT ME

Well, let's see.. I am the oldest of 9 children. We call ourselves the Martians =) (Our last name is Martin. The nickname was given to one of my younger sisters by her soccer coach and it just stuck - also, we are all strange so it is fitting!) I have been living away from home for years now, and it feels like a different lifetime when we all get together as we are all getting older. I could go on and on, but basically - we are all spread around the country, slowly but surely but whenever we get together we have a blast! They are such amazing people! I feel incredibly blessed! If you stay with me, you are very likely to have the "Martian Madness" video that my sister made shown to you - as I like to watch it as often as possible because it just makes me happy!

Being from a large family, it was difficult to do a lot of traveling, other than visiting family members while growing up. I have always had a desire to go, travel, wander! The urge became stronger and stronger the older I got. I went to school for accounting in the end, because a friend told me that you could travel anywhere with that degree. Turns out after all the years I spent studying and finishing my degree - I don't want to be an accountant!

I don't really know what I want to do, but I finally started traveling in the past year and absolutely am in love with it! I don't know if I'll be able to stop! So, I am on the hunt for other ways to make money on the road and be able to continue long term travel doing something I am truly passionate about!

PHILOSOPHY

Play outside! It will make you happy!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've never courchsurfed per say using the website, but I was in India on a bus headed to Munnar and met a young boy with his mom traveling back home. His name was Harry and we chatted for about 2 hours. He was my own personal tour guide of the area. Told me about the history, landscape and even asked me how I felt about the pollution in the area. He was only 12! He and his mom invited me to come visit and stay with them in their home several days later and I accepted. They were so incredibly welcoming and hospitable. I was feeling under the weather and wanted to head out, but his mom insisted that I stay and rest, even brought medicine back home for me. I had amazing home cooked Indian food and we shared stories about life in India and back home . Honey, Harry's sister wrote a letter addressing each member of my family - even remembering personal details about each of them! No small task when it comes to my large family! It was an amazing experience! I'd love to be able to do the same for other travelers while I am at home and continue meeting and having a more local experience while on the road!

Música, películas y libros

I love travel books of any kind - guidebooks (mostly for the pictures as I hate planning ahead of time and am terrible at it!!), novels from an area I was in, books such as "Mapping Manhattan" by a woman I met heading to the airport in New York, made up of maps that she handed out all over the city that were mailed back to her with their story.

Music I'd say my favorites right now are The Devil Makes Three (my happy mountain music =), The Black Keys, The Raconteurs, Portugal. The Man, Of Monsters and Men....there are others - I'm bad matching up songs I like with the bands that play them a lot of the time!
