I'm a journalist who works as an assignment editor on the word side at the Detroit Free Press. I also am a professionally trained photographer with a wedding and portrait business. I'm divorced (still good friends with the ex) , have an adult daughter and live in a condo just east of downtown Detroit. I live across the street from the Dequindre Cut, a rails to trails path that leads to the riverfront to the south and the Eastern Market to the north. I like to explore the streets of Detroit on my motor scooter and love documenting photographically both the good and the bad of Detroit. I also teach an advanced level course in journalism at Eastern Michigan University. I consider myself an intellectually curious person who loves art, travel, good music, good books and great conversation. Politically, I would label myself as moderate, leaning toward the liberal side.

My degree is actually in literature and I've always been an avid reader since I was a boy. I like Hemingway, Fitzgerald, Richard Russo, Elmore Leonard, John Irving, etc. Lately, I have been reading a lot of World War II historical fiction, including Herman Wouk's Caine Mutiny, Winds of War and War and Remembrance. I just finished All the Light We Cannot See, which I absolutely loved. My musical tastes are varied and eclectic, running from pop and rock to jazz to classical.

I spent three absolutely weeks in Italy in a photography class based in Sorrento on the west coast. Besides witnessing the birth of my daughter, it was the most memorable time of my life.
