About Me

This is my pre-Covid profile. In some ways it hasn't changed...lol.

I have gradually learned, through some hard knocks and some soft, to enjoy everything I can from life. There are no guarantees.

I want to learn more, not less. I want to travel more, not less. I want to build more, not less. I want to love more, not less.

As a young man, I joined the USMC and trained and travelled for Uncle Sam for 4 years. I lived on a ship for 6 months in the Mediterranean Sea and another period of time in Okinawa, Japan. I would say that the travel bug never left me since those early days. I consider myself a progressive humanist these days and found kinship with all the people I encountered from other nations.

I scuba dive California. I have travelled quite a bit during dive vacations as well but I want to shift my travel to see more historical and cultural events and places.

I've recently begun living on my sailboat pre-retirement.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I want to meet interesting people from foreign countries who can share some fun and conversation during their visit. I am also interested in expanding my horizons with more foreign travel and hope to find hosts like me who could share some time and stories of their everyday lives.

Music, Movies, and Books

I enjoy music from many different genres and it's hard for me to pick favorites. Very mood based. I swing from 60s and 70s all the way to current American Music mostly. I tend to avoid country music.

I don't read as much these days as I did when I was younger. It's far too easy to fall asleep in front of Netflix. Lol.

I rarely attend movies but when I do they're usually science fiction and action based.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I touched a great White Shark in South Africa

Teach, Learn, Share

I have skills and hobbies, any of which I would be happy to share where possible. Water treatment, scuba, boating are primary but many others.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Laughter, conversation, some local guidance on tourist favorite and off-beat restaurants, entertainment and sights. I will be available during your visit as much as my work schedule permits.

I would be interested in arranging a home swap visit to an interesting destination. Let's discuss it!
