G’day! I’m Steve

An Aussie travelling long term, who values experiences over possessions and believes in making the most of every moment. What drives me is the chance to experience new cultures firsthand, learn how others live, think, and celebrate life, (with a laugh over a beer, as any good Aussie would!).

I stay active and healthy, love playing the ukulele and singing, enjoy live music and dancing. I’m happiest outdoors, especially if I’m exploring under the sea or on two wheels. I like to challenge myself, embrace the unfamiliar, and thrive in inclusive, curious, and creative spaces.

I enjoy connecting with people from all walks of life, sharing stories, exchanging ideas, and learning what inspires them. Couchsurfing, for me, is all about meaningful conversations, cultural exchange, and discovering the many ways people live and see the world.

I value the local side of life, the spots tourists usually miss, the hidden gems, laid-back hangouts, and the kind of places only locals tend to know about. It’s all about sharing real experiences, definitely not just ticking off landmarks.

When I’m back home, I host as often as I can and love giving back to the community that’s welcomed me in so many places.

Keeping life one big adventure!

I’ve spent five years as a scuba diving instructor and worked across a mix of industries, always chasing growth, connection, and a good story. I love expressing myself through music—whether it's performing at open mic nights, busking, or just sing-along jamming with new friends.

You’ll find me on the dance floor too—swinging through salsa or rock'n'roll partner dancing—or bouncing around at live rock and metal gigs. I’m passionate about learning, whether it's picking up new skills, or simply perspectives.

Big fan of two wheels—motorbikes or bicycles—especially when they take me into nature. I’m happiest surrounded by animals, fresh air, and the kind of scenery that makes you stop and take it all in.

🎬 Movies: I’m into films that make you think and ones that make you laugh. Favourites include Fight Club, The Matrix, Memento, Night at the Roxbury, Super Troopers, Faster, and Closer to the Edge.

🎶 Music: I’ve got pretty eclectic taste—rock, blues, funk, jazz, soul, reggae and anything with a sunset background soundtracked with chillaxed deep-house beats from a live DJ booth...
If it moves me or gets me moving, I’m in.

📚 Books: I lean toward real stories—true crime, biographies, and tales from wild corners of the world. Marching Powder was a standout. I’ll admit, I don’t read as much as I probably should, but I’m always up for a good recommendation.

I’ve made the conscious choice to live the best life for me.
Stepping away from the consumer driven mindset and resisting the pressure to follow the conventional path just to fuel an economy that doesn’t align with my values. Instead, I’ve focused on experiences, connections, and personal growth. This choice has led me on some incredible adventures... but you'll have to meet me to hear the stories.

I believe in sharing openly... my time, stories, laughter because life for me is about genuine connection and meaningful moments, far beyond the surface of plastic smiles. At the same time, I’m always eager to learn about how people live, their customs, local secrets, and new ways of seeing the world... and there's always another song to "Be Better" with.
