About Me

CURRENT MISSION
To enjoy meeting people with different perspectives of the world, share my own perspective, and learn from them.

ABOUT ME
I guess I fit into the 'young professional in the city' category at the moment, but think that I have a pretty wide background and have a lot of varying future goals. So it might be hard to fit me in a box.

I've always had a ton of raw curiosity and excitement about trying new things. I'm friendly, warm, and always down for a good laugh. One thing I've realized is that every single person brings something unique to the table, and that we can learn something from each other and have a good time. Everyone is on their own path, but we can learn a lot by taking a glimpse at another's.

Traveling is the best, especially with a purpose behind it. Nothing is better than waking up in a new town or city, grabbing your daypack, maybe a bike, and exploring. I've met so many awesome people by throwing plans to the wayside for a bit and relaxing, exploring, and just going with the flow.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

If I wanted a cheap place to get some peace and quiet, I'd do Airbnb.
If I wanted a place to get no sleep and party all night, I'd go for a hostel.

Couchsurfing is the best for sharing a unique experience with a host for a few days and seeing how a local person lives and enjoys their life. It takes more effort, but it's worth it.

I'm not at all looking for a host to just show me the couch and the bathroom and say goodbye. I'm looking for a good conversation over dinner at a local restaurant, a night out around town with some new friends, a language lesson to share some American slang... whatever comes up.

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I've hosted surfers from over 10 countries in NYC, Hoboken, and Connecticut, some who have become great friends. I've also surfed all over Europe in 2015, with a wide wide range of hosts. I've gone to a few CS meetups in NY, Berlin, and Budapest. I've never had a bad experience with Couchsurfing and it's the first thing I go to when I'm looking to adventure out in the world again.

Interests

Learning Languages: right now I'm learning Spanish (a year), German (2 years), and Portuguese (a few weeks). My goal is to get up to the B2 level at every one I start. Up next: French, Mandarin, Russian...? Convince me!

Running, Lifting, Hiking, Yoga, Guitar, Philosophy, Photography, Geopolitics, Live Music, Eating, and a good laugh.

Music, Movies, and Books

I have an appreciation for a wide range of music. I'll listen to classical, progressive house, trance, and drum & bass while studying or working. I play punk, metal, pop punk, and rock on guitar. Sometimes I can go for rap, pop, and after a trip to Nashville... even country music.

Some I like more than others, but I can appreciate every type of music for what it is. Sometimes after seeing a certain style live can really change the way you hear and feel it.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Befriending my Hungarian friend's 5 year old daughter, using my extensive (25 word) Hungarian vocabulary... shows you don't have to speak the same language well to make a new friend!

Rode across the entire two islands of Guadeloupe with a scooter and a friend on the back... hit about 65mph/105kph on the main highway. Definitely got the adrenaline flowing.

Biked to the Mediterranean alone and then down the Costa Brava's twisting roads, back down to Barcelona.

Partied with some Serbs on an overnight 1960's Yugoslav era train from Montenegro to Serbia. Slowest train ride ever.

Teach, Learn, Share

Teach you how to take a better picture.

Learn how you like to live your life.

Share my curiosity and energy with you.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Most days I wake up wanting to improve my knowledge of the world, and I hope that I can share my curiosity, and what I've learned so far, with a host. I hope they can impart a viewpoint, idea, or share in an experience that I can always keep with me.

Even though I travel light, I can take some sweet photos and jam some fun stuff on a guitar... and more than just Wonderwall ;). Always try to add some positive vibes and laughs during a night out on the town with new friends.
