I’ve grown up and spent much of my life in NY. I moved from a suburb to the city for college in 2009, and have basically lived on the upper east side of Manhattan since. Initially, it was my career aspiration that kept me in NYC—I was an actor in film/TV/theatre. My (extremely) modest career left me unsatisfied, and I decided that, for now, an actor’s life wasn’t the life for me. I began teaching yoga, and I’ve been infinitely happier, spending my time constantly learning and sharing what I’ve learned. The most astounding and rewarding part of this teaching is that what i offer seems to be making a serious difference in the lives of my students.

I can’t think of a better way to form a solid connection with a new friend than staying in their home.
I’ve been California Dreaming for quite some time. I used to say it was my career that kept me in NY, and I now know that that probably isn’t true (although it’s still an excuse I use). There’s a lot of fear for me in leaving the city—fear of the unknown, of leaving my family, the safety of the apartment I’ve lived in since 2012, the amazing career I’ve set up, my brilliant and dear friends. I think seeing new places through the eyes of a local will help me to open up my view of possibilities for myself.

Current read: Sapiens. Favorite read: Color Purple. Second favorite read: A Little Life. Other recents: A Guide to Better Movement and Less Pain; the Bluest Eye; (half of) Go Tell It On A Mountain.
Spiritual guide books: Power of Now (my first reading experience into the idea of nowness; I read it on a 30 day backpacking trip through the north cascades in the PNW). Also A New Earth by Eckhart Tolle. Other stuff by Pema Chodron.
I LOVE seeing live music. Jazz, gospel, blues, funk, are some favorites. I also love a good acoustic folk singer. Generally I’m not so into electronic music, but I’m willing to get out of my comfort zone, especially if there’s a dance floor waiting to be taken.
Not much of a movie buff, but I do love ‘em.

Une aventure extraordinaire que j'ai vécue

After working for Disney Cruise Line as a singer (that was a whole experience in itself), I traveled through Europe and saw something like 13 countries in 3 weeks. It was a whirlwind, and though I would never do that much in one trip again, I’m so glad it was my first experience in Europe.

Enseignez, apprenez, partagez

Well, I teach yoga/movement/mobility/strength for a living, and have taught acting, voice, and dance, in the past. At one point I was teaching a fusion of yoga and voice work to actors, and I’ve done a ton of teaching theatre to kids. A ton. I also randomly teach Judaism at a Hebrew School to kids during the year, which is a really awesome way to round out my week teaching adults how to move better.

Have I mentioned that i teach yoga? Besides that, well, gee. I’d like to think I can share my ears with a new person—meeting someone usually allows me to open up new space in my listening. I love to soak in other people’s life story, and often, i think, they like to be heard and interested in.
