About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To take in all the ephemeral joys of an adventurous life

ABOUT ME

I've always been one to live for the moment. I take my camera around everywhere, just in case I find something unusual that I want to immortalize (until my hard drive fails, of course...). I am really into playing music; I took piano lessons as a child, and have played guitar now for about 8 years, mostly working on my own material. I'm eager to explore the world, but despite having had various opportunities over the years, I haven't yet left on any big adventures. This summer, I'm taking off to Europe with a good friend to see what sorts of diversities I can capture with my beloved Nikon DSLR. I love to laugh, and though I've been known to crack eye-rollable jokes on occasion, I also enjoy the many different varieties of conversation that develop with, or without, wine. I like going for hikes, runs, and I try to get up to the hill on my mountain bike at least once a week.

PHILOSOPHY

My friends and family are very important to me, as is upholding and supporting respect for all kind hearted people. Everyone lives a different way; they think differently and they do differently, but some things bring us together in a positive and unique way, and it's important to embrace these occurrences as they happen and understand that life is short, and it's the little things that make it all worth while. I walk down the street to work every day, and always notice something new and different. There is no reason to live an unfulfilling life, because there is so much right in front of our very eyes, if we're willing to look.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I'm new to this project, but have heard such great things from peers that I had to try it myself. I'm traveling abroad soon and would love to meet people who are willing to meet with me and tell me about their home country. If my experience is successful, I'll be more than happy to supply my couch in Victoria to the right candidates!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

None yet, but I've heard great things!

Interests

I enjoy reading both fiction and non-fiction, but a good novel never fails to keep me up later than I should be, having to work the next morning. I also like great movies, and would have to say that my personal favorite is Life is Beautiful (Roberto Benigni, Italian, 1998). I've had a mountain bike since I was a kid, and have naturally progressed to a level that, I think, is pretty intermediate. I enjoy singing and playing the guitar, mostly folk/indy style, but it changes all the time. I like photography, mostly nature, but some portraits as well. I would rather meet with friends at a house, or drive to a beach, than go to a club with loud music where it's impossible to converse. I'm definitely not anti-dancing, but with this era's popular music, who would want to?

Music, Movies, and Books

Music - Alt Rock, Indy, Acoustic, Talent
Movies - Comedy, Drama, Romance, all three together if done well
Books - just finished "The Elegance of the Hedgehog" by Muriel Barbery and loved it

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

2 years ago, I put my life as I knew it on hold when I found out a good friend was not well. I went with her to California and stayed by her side for several weeks, and do not regret a minute of it, despite financial and occupational difficulties when I returned. The amount of love one person can have for another in troubling times can be utterly heart wrenching, but can also contain so much truth that it could never be looked back on as time misspent. I've never felt anything like it.

Teach, Learn, Share

Having lived in Victoria all my life, my knowledge of the city and its natural surroundings is extensive. I have explored in many directions and know the best our island has to offer, from my viewpoint. I enjoy music and art, and have learned that ideas can be creative, but are not results. The more you do, the more you like.
