About Me

Back in Australia after 16 months of backpacking in Europe and central America. It's tough...

I am a reporter for a major news organisation. I've been in Darwin for about a year, but was in the NT for several years before I left to go travelling.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Well I wanted to meet cool people while travelling, and now I'd like to return the favour!

Interests

Hiking, camping, cooking, food, wine, coffee, tea, music, guitar, ukulele, jazz, gardening, reading, fishing, history, politics... it goes on.

Music, Movies, and Books

I listen to a lot of Australian music. I love Crowded House, the Pigram Brothers, U2, Paul Kelly, The John Butler Trio, Clare Bowditch.

I love seeing jazz and blues live, I play guitar and try to write my own songs sometimes.

I've been reading a lot of classics on this trip - because you can get them for free on a Kindle! Victor Hugo, Jane Austen, Mark Twain and Charles Dickens. But I also like new books when I can afford them - it sucks not having access to library.

As for movies, pretty much anything!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

A six day hike through the Lapland, in the Arctic Circle in Sweden. The huts I was staying in had wood fired saunas, and I got totally hooked on staying in there as long as I could, then jumping in a rive or lake which was two or three degrees. It's an amazing sensation!

Dog sledding in Norway across frozen rivers!

Teach, Learn, Share

I want to learn languages, how to cook local food and the history of places. I can teach a bit of about Australia, how to play guitar and I'm not a bad cook! I end up talking about politics a fair bit... I bought a ukulele in Sicily, so I can teach you a few chords!

Countries I’ve Visited

Andorra, Belgium, Belize, China, Cuba, Czech Republic, Denmark, France, Germany, Greece, Guatemala, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Morocco, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Timor-Leste (East Timor), United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom
