Currently on a world tour. Not going to be back to Vegas for the foreseeable future... no longer traveling alone. Picked up a girlfriend
UPDATE!!! WIFE!!!
in Turkey. Think I'll keep her 😉 Her name is Karina, she's not officially a surfer but is traveling with me so I hope she will be welcome if you welcome me.

I am a 57 year old male, with the mind set of a 29 year old. In my younger days I chose the Road less traveled,(Sometimes I would have preferred not to have traveled it my self), but it makes up who I am. Now I'm on a new path. One of Spiritual growth. I love life and the Playground that is our planet. Given the time I plan hitting every swing set!
I am also a bit of a foodie...and try to make it a point to eat where locals eat wherever i go...I never met a line I didn't like...if a vendor has a line for their food...count me in. It's paid off more then not. I would go as far as to say Anthony Bourdain IS a hero of mine. If i come back in another life I would like to be him... Faults and all!
Also, I am a Sober member of Alcoholics Anonymous (23 years..10.11.01)

PHILOSOPHY

"Life is a Journey, not a Destination" Even had it tattooed on me by a monk in Thailand. I believe if you have a couple bucks in your pocket and gas in you tank you're never lost, just on a new adventure. I believe who a person was is not who they are, and who they are is not who they are gonna be. "Well, I believe in the soul, the cock, the pussy, the small of a woman's back, the hanging curve ball, high fiber, good scotch, that the novels of Susan Sontag are self-indulgent, overrated crap. I believe Lee Harvey Oswald acted alone. I believe there ought to be a constitutional amendment outlawing Astroturf and the designated hitter. I believe in the sweet spot, soft-core pornography, opening your presents Christmas morning rather than Christmas Eve and I believe in long, slow, deep, soft, wet kisses that last three days". (I'm also a movie buff and I like a good quote even if its not mine!) By the way , bonus if you can tell me where that quote is from.

I believe Couchsufing is and was designed as a cultural exchange site... for people of a like mind to meet and share stories and philosophies on life and travel... not a "I don't want to pay for a hotel" site... Please keep that in mind when reaching out.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Did a whirlwind tour of Europe ending with a missed flight and a reroute thru Ireland. I immediately hit "Couchsurfing.com" and within hours had a place in Limerick. A half hour from the airport. It saved my life! If you ever get there have Hector make you a Spanish omelette! Between Couchsurfing and Globalfreeloaders I spent NO money on Accomodation (save for one slip up in Venice) Allowing me to OVER spend on trains and so see more! I LOVE COUCHSURFING!!!

Now Im working on the Spiritual. I am a traveler my interests are as yours, how I express them may be different, but where I hope to end up I believe is the same.

Music, Movies, and Books

I like everything. If I could sum up my life I think I could do it in three movies. 'Billy Jack", "Willie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory"( the original) and "Hair", But of course I like "MAN" movies "Gladiator", "The Patriot", Braveheart" Oh and in case you couldn't tell from the last Quote... "Bull Durham". Books all good trash (Sheldon, Collins, Robbins) then the classics, Love Dumas And Ayn Rand (Atlas Shrugged is probably one of the best books I've ever read) and of course what travelers library could be complete without "The Alchemist"!!! Which i read floating down the Namkang river in Laos. Music is all good. I love Rock & Metal, but got turned on to Enya, Sarah Brightman and Eva Cassidy during my travels thru S.E. Asia. Also like World music and some house and techno.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

My friend and I met a guy our second night in Phuket (which by the way was my first time EVER traveling outside the US (other then Tiajuana) at 36 years old). Our third day started with us loading all of our stuff onto his boat and sailing to Koh Lanta. In the middle of the Andaman Sea we just stopped the boat and jumped into the Sea. NOTHING anywhere just us and BLUE water.
Then "The Beach". Moored at Maya Bay. Night time Pouring rain. water hiting water makes the organisms in the sea glow green(if youve been there you know) Standing on the deck below this thousand foot granite wall listening to Sarah Brightman (I'm getting Chills now). Was at a tribal gathering in the Jungles in Pai, was invited to a wedding in Laos, visited an Orphanage in Vietnam. Ive done things that were so big and amazing I couldn't adequately put them in words and I've done thing so seemingly "small" that have changed my life. I guess its all relative. :)
Spent three days in Rome. If you've been there you know. Amazing lies around EVERY corner!

Teach, Learn, Share

I will just teach you one thing, and it is only me I speak for. My couch is not here because you don't want to pay for a hotel, motel or hostel while you are apartment hunting, job searching or auditioning for a local theatre production. I am also not a flop house so i prefer not to have guests for one night (absolutely does not pertain to emergencies) it is just hard to get to know anyone in those few hours. if that is what you need... Hostel.

I expect to see it in your request so I know you read this). let me know you care who I am... I may not be someone you want to spend time with... Or vise versa... I will read your profile... Know it sounds stern... but noticing a lot of new surfers out there that don't seem to be getting this.
