About Me

CURRENT MISSION

strangers are simply best-friends you haven't met yet

ABOUT ME

I'm out to learn as much as i can about myself and others through travel. Deep conversation is what makes me happy, and it matters little who I'm with, as long as they're willing to share their ideas honestly. Let's hang out! I'll tell you what i know and think, and i just hope to hear the same from you. Message me anytime!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I've been a guest at a few peoples' places through couchsurfing, but I've never hosted people myself. Of course that doesn't mean I wouldn't love to! If you'd like a couch to crash on for a night or a week, drop me a line! I know plenty of folks around town who would love to meet you. :)

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Everyone's unique; it's just a matter of finding out how.

My favorite trip was one I made about five years ago. I wasn't sure where I wanted to go to school, so I took a road trip to the Pacific Northwest with a new friend. We were doing it on a budget, we'd both heard of couchsurfing, so we created a couple profiles and let the wind bring us to wherever it seemed fit.

A couple weeks later, I landed on the small campus of Whitman College in Washington state. The area around the place was desolate, and the ride in was disconcerting because of it. When I rolled in to town, the streets were filled with unfamiliar people, and I wasn't sure how to find Willy, my host for the weekend. He found me - the bewildered looking kid with a big backpack - stranded alone somewhere on the edge of campus. His big smile was warm and genuine. I knew from that moment on I loved couchsurfing as much as any other social experience I'd had.

That weekend turned into one in which I met so many great folks. All of Willy's roommates and best friends treated me like someone who'd been around for weeks if not months. We talked like old friends around the living room. Some of us sprawled out on couches, some on floors, all of us barefoot and enjoying the presence of each other.

My personal life didn't bring me to Whitman College for studies, but I wouldn't give back that trip into the middle of the Washington Scablands for anything else.

Music, Movies, and Books

Movies: Jurassic Park, anything by Miyazaki, The Big Lebowski (anything Coen brothers)

Music: Otis Redding, Rolling Stones, Cat Stevens, on and on and on...

Books: this is too hard. Good recent reads have been Ishmael, The Quiet American, and an atlas of subway systems I recently picked up.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Simple things reverberate off of my soul. If you've never seen a Toucan fly in the wild, then let me tell you what it's like. Amazing to be sure. Seriously, Toucans are the best. Radiant flamboyant creatures!

Teach, Learn, Share

I love to work in the kitchen, so I'm all about learning and teaching commonsense skills. Do you know how to make a really freaking good omelet? (Necessary life skill, by the way, as long as you're going to have house guests.) I do. I can teach you.

Countries I’ve Visited

Belgium, Canada, Costa Rica, Germany, Ireland, Japan, Netherlands, South Korea, Taiwan

Countries I’ve Lived In

South Korea, United States
