ABOUT ME

I find it very difficult to tell interesting stuff about myself, but I'll try anyway:

- First of all, I'm a mathematician (but this doesn't mean I'm crazy). I enjoy thinking about abstract or hardly imaginable things. I love maths because I like the challenge of proving some hypotheses, but also the satisfaction when finishing a proof or an exercise.
I got my Master's degree in maths magna cum laude at the University of Antwerp. Now I'm applying for a doctoral grant in the field of Clifford and Fourier analysis.

- Secondly, I'm a musician. Music is actually my greatest passion. I started playing the guitar when I was eight, but quickly I found out that I had more talent for playing the piano. Meanwhile, I also teached myself how to play the bass guitar, the drums, the saxophone and many other instruments. I sing in the choir of the university of Antwerp and I also conduct a church choir. Sometimes, I even replace the main conductor in our local youth concert band. Besides that, I also like to compose or arrange some music. One of my main qualities is the ability to hear a song and "instantly" play it.

- I'm in love with my tremendous girlfriend, Loes. We were best friends for a couple of years, but it turned out that we could not live without each other. If she had to describe me in a couple of words, she said 'a kind, caring, joyful person'. I guess there must be some truth in that.. ;-)

- I collect beer glasses. At the moment, I have about 150 different glasses, but I'm not satisfied yet (although my girlfriend doesn't like me to have more...). I started this collection one (maybe little drunk) night when I took 3 glasses from a local pub. The next few weeks, it became a challenge to do this again, and again, and again... Now, I try to limit this "stealing", and ask the bartender if I can buy the glass I want, especially in foreign countries.

- I am a very social and engaged person. I have spent a lot of my time at the university with my friends of the student association WINAK (for mathematicians, physicians and computer scientists) in which I was a member of the board for four years. The upcoming academic year, I will be president of another student association, Castrum, in which we try to uphold the typical student traditions.

- In the little spare time I have left, I like to watch sports on tv. Football, cycling, tennis,... As long as I don't have to tire myself, it's all fine with me ;-)

- I don't like animals coming close to me, except for cats (I learned to accept them because Loes is a cat-lover). Especially dogs have to stay as far away from me as possible.

- I try to put as much humour as possible into my and other people's life. I like to laugh, to tell jokes, to josh people, ... Most of the time, I do this by using word puns, and people really know me for this.

PHILOSOPHY

- A day without a laugh or a smile is a lost day.
- Always follow your heart. Your brains will change their mind.

Surfing:
--------

- April 2012: Surfed a few nights in Konstanz (Germany) with my family and my girlfriend. We stayed with a nice German man, who we called Fritz, but now we forgot his real name...
- June 2014: Slept one night in Milan (Italy) with my girlfriend at Sarah's place.
- June 2014: Slept one night in Chanoz-Chatenay (France) with my girlfriend in the paradise of Eric and Chantal.

I don't make enough time for myself to read books, but when I was a teenager, the Harry Potters series were my favourite. As a child, I read a lot of books of Roald Dahl.
