About Me
CURRENT MISSION
To see as much as possible in my lifetime! To leave the world more rich than when I found it.
ABOUT ME
Love laughing and meeting people from everywhere! Enjoying good times and living life to its fullest. I am somewhat crazy sometimes, but seriously, aren't we all? I am an emotional being, an environmentalist, and a designer. A steward of the Earth, a baker, a knitter, a runner, and maybe, your new best friend! :)
I am curious about other cultures and would love to travel more. I am as spontaneous as I can be and I love a good challenge! I have always been one to try something out for myself rather than take your word on something...
You will be staying with both myself and Gene, who is a genuine, honest, and wonderful soul! As a couple, we take life day by day and enjoy cooking, running, hiking, gardening, and having wonderful adventures together.
I try to be very active, as I was a large kid raised on fast food, so I like all things healthy and positive!
I love to be involved in all things creative; I am usually immersed in one art project or another!
I am a huge advocate for recycling and conservation.
I can be more high strung than I would prefer, but I like to think that surrounding myself with more laid back personalities helps me balance this characteristic of myself.
I love to read and share new ideas!
I love love love live music of all kinds!
I hate being cold but love layering! I love the transition seasons- they are colorful and inspiring!
I love animals but hate their smells... something I will have to adjust to at some point ;)
I am a social smoker and a social drinker, but I do have my glass of red wine in the evenings. I hate being drunk and out of control... I think I had enough of that in my earlier years!
I look forward to meeting people from around the world and sharing this awesome city!
PHILOSOPHY
HONESTY is the ONLY policy! (This sets ALL right)
What you send out, you receive in.
Live and let live.
LOVE THE LIFE YOU LIVE, and LIVE THE LIFE YOU LOVE!
Treat your fellow man, earth's creatures, and Mother nature with love and respect as you would treat yourself :)
"To thine own self be true"
~William Shakespeare
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I have surfed once! I spent two nights on the couch of mister Siddhartha Mehta, a most wonderful and gracious host(!), in Washington D.C. in Jan09 for Obama's Inauguration! Sid helped my friend Megan and I get around the city and navigate the Metro line and bus systems. It was fantastic to experience the city while Obama was inaugurated! The city was ALIVE with excitement!!! I really appreciated meeting Sid and his roommates and enjoyed their hospitality.
This Summer Gene and I had the pleasure of hosting Kellie and Brian :)
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
I stayed with Sid Mehta for two nights back in January09.
I look forward to more surfing experiences throughout my travels and also to opening up my home to new friends!
I hosted Kellie and Brian in July2010 for Louisville's Forecastle festival. They were a total blast! It is always a really cool experience to find someone, almost randomly, that you feel is a "sista from another mista!"

Music, Movies, and Books
I love positive music! Music I can shake my booty to! Music with soul! Music with fun, even spastic rhythms! I feel, like most people, that I have rather eclectic taste.
I love jazz, Thelonius Monk, Louis Armstrong, folk, She &Him, Norah Jones, Ani DiFranco, reggae, Marley, Mr. Zion, Michael Franti & Spearhead, funk, Galactic, bluegrass, Rumke Mountain Boys, Yonder Mountain String Band, house, Baby Anne, drum n bass, Aphrodite, soul, Feist, Odetta, Ray Lamontagne, Amos Lee, Ella Fitzgerald, blues, Skip James, classic R&B like Sam Cooke or Ray Charles
I love reading anything historical, narrative fiction (memoirs), many informative non-fiction as well... I am always reading some periodical... there is a weekly news\alt mag called the LEO (Louisville Eccentric Observer) that I love; Dwell Magazine, The Atlantic, or Good Magazine.
We do not have cable and do not watch much tv. We do have a subscription to Netflix, so we are constantly getting new movies to watch. We love documentaries, comedy, classics, romance, some drama, some horror, some thriller, and some action. I love Tim Burton, Tarentino, Indie films... Recently watched Mel Gibson's Apocalypto... if you have not seen this, it is a must!
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
After growing up in an unhealthy lifestyle filled with fast food, I have adopted a healthy mantra. I try to run every day, make healthy food choices, and practice yoga regularly. I have noticed that yoga really makes a huge difference in my every day life. I can run farther, and faster, and the amazing thing that I have done in my lifetime is to turn the "fat girl" around. I still struggle with the temptations of the loaded and layered foods that are filled with sugar, salt, and fat, and I am sure that I always will, but for now, I find it amazing that I feel so healthy and have a positive self-image.
I would love to share this attitude with anyone I meet, particularly my own family, but this is something that you have to determine for yourself.
Teach, Learn, Share
I am looking forward to learning new things about the world. I have a very limited perspective (limited traveling experience). I want to learn about other cultures and ideas about creating positive experiences. I want to learn more Spanish and other languages. I want to learn how to be a better cook and even a better hostess. I am learning how to be someone who shares more self-lessly. I look forward to learning anything and everything I can about self-improvement and environmental conservation. I want to learn how to be an urban gardener and what I can do with my limited resources to help our planet and our communities, no matter the size.
I have lots to teach about this city. I have lived here my whole life and I know most streets in and out. I have been to most restaurants, shops, and entertainment venues. I can teach kindness and open-mindedness. I know much Spanish but am quite out of practice. I need to speak it more regularly with someone ;) I can teach environmental responsibility as well as physically healthy choices (I was raised on fast food). I can expose friends to optimism and positivity as a way of life ;)
