Getting by, figuring it all out... the usual
I'm Californian (Born and raised in LA), living in Germany. In some ways I'm "very American" and in other ways not American at all. I travel as much as I can and love making friends from all over the world!
I studied economics - I like that it explains so much about the world and people's behavior, so I guess I more like the applications of econ/business in the real world. More recently, I wrote my masters thesis on crowdsourcing and new ways of consuming. Aside from that, I'm into music (especially live music) of any kind, karaoke, geography, street art, new innovations/technology that are changing our lives, flash mobs, secret local places/bars/restaurants, beer, and other languages/cultures.
Don't worry about things you can't control.
What you think about most is what you get.
Money and possessions come and go; friends, family, health, and experiences are priceless.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
Hosted for 2 years in LA, 1.5 years in London, a bit in Düsseldorf, and surfed many times, each experience was awesome and has led me to form some of the best friendships of my life! I am always happy to meet couchsurfers.
I love to travel (don't we all!), enjoy music, food, drinks, trying to play the guitar, and running into oncoming traffic. I also enjoy surfing, snowboarding, karaoke, running, linguistics, spicy food, hiking, geography, TV shows, and random phrases from other languages.
Music, Movies, and Books
Movies: Independence Day, Snakes on a Plane!, Intouchables, Ocean's Eleven, The Bourne Identity series, Wedding Crashers, Catch Me If You Can, Run Lola Run, Knocked Up, Memento, Die fetten Jahre sind vorbei, Cidade de Deus, Up, Up in the Air, Into the Wild, etc...Music: I love hearing anything new. Love live music, whether jazz in a café or a big rock concert. I have a fondness for punk, pop-punk, pop, ska, indie, acoustic, some electronic, hip-hop, and classic rock. I will stop everything to sing along to "Don't Stop Believin'."Books: I love to "read" maps and atlases, and generally like non-fiction, like Freakonomics and The Omnivore's Dilemma.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Made some awesome friends.Played tennis with Andre Agassi. Survived a total car crash without wearing a seat belt. Walked to an island. Got hit by a deer while driving. Saw Nessie. Was on a bus, a train, and underwater at the same time. Skiied the Alps (without knowing how to ski). Ran with the Olympic Torch. Completed the Monopoly Pub Crawl. Been on a TV game show. Joined thousands in a spontaneous parade in Berkeley the night Obama was elected.
Stood on an active volcano. Sunset cruise under the Golden Gate. Met celebrities around LA. Was flown to Google headquarters for an interview. Touched the largest tree in the world. Met 8 models on national TV. Got kicked out of a Vegas club. Took part in a couple flash mobs. Jet skiied. Experienced an authentic crawfish boil in New Orelans. Drove across the USA. Iceland. Climbed the highest peak in England. Hitchhiked. Summer music festivals. Berlin nightlife. Summer solstice at Stonehenge. Went to several games of the 2012 London Olympics! New Years in London (twice). Driving a car in England in a snowstorm.
Made a best friend. Got a great job. Jumped off a diving board 10m high. Water skiied. Flew on an airplane without knowing its destination. Surfed in Hawaii. Taught myself to drive a motorcycle (and crashed it). Had unbelievable hangovers in Bangkok, and Las Vegas (and in many other places).
