About Me

I am ... unfortunately suited to academia but sick of uni; love travelling; think too much; always ready for an adventure or a challenge; responsible; interested in too many things to list and happy to discuss any topic at all. I'm Australian more than anything, but was born in Malaysia, am of Chinese heritage, love living in Spain and Ecuador, and now Bolivia. I've also spent time in Indonesia and Timor-Leste and would love to be truly cosmopolitan by adding to that list!!

Ka karik ita husi rai seluk i serbisu tiha iha Timor? Ha'u la os experta maibe bele ko'alia i halo konversa ki'ik :)

Music, Movies, and Books

Generally pop rock, daggy 80s and 90s pop-rock and power ballads, Australian (indie) music, melancholy acoustic type stuff, fun stuff with a beat, a good melody, string instruments. Most other types of music :) Currently obsessed with Chet Faker, Ed Sheeran and James Bay.

10 Things I Hate About You, Aladdin; All About My Mother; Amelie; Batman Begins; Beauty & the Beast; Before Sunset; Casablanca; The Constant Gardener; The Darjeeling Limited; Gladiator; The Grand Budapest Hotel; Inception; Interstellar; The Lion King; Mean Girls; The Motorcycle Diaries; The Princess Bride; Rocco & His Brothers; Singing in the Rain; Zoolander

The English Patient (Michael Ondaatje); Crónica de una muerte anunciada (Gabriel García Márquez); The Obernewtyn Chronicles (Isobelle Carmody); Niebla (Miguel de Unamuno); The Journey Home (Alison Lester); Hamlet (Shakespeare, duh); The Unbearable Lightness of Being, and Identity (Milan Kundera); Noli Me Tangere (José Rizal); Labyrinths (Jorge Luis Borges); The Golden Compass (Philip Pullman); Pride & Prejudice (Jane Austen); North & South (Elizabeth Gaskell); La loca de la casa (Rosa Montero); the NKJV Bible (God)

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Being in Madrid when Spain won the Eurocopa in 2008.

Boating and scuba diving in Karimunjawa, Indonesia.

Going to Dili, Timor-Leste and writing a report about the assassination attempts on the president and prime minister.

Living in a super small village in the Ecuadorian Andes.

Machu Picchu and Iguazu Falls - they totally live up to the hype!

Scaling Charquini glacier near La Paz, Bolivia.

Getting cast as a Chinese femme fatale in a Bolivian TV commercial.

I think the everyday can be amazing if you think outside the box and learn to appreciate what you've got and what's around you :)

Teach, Learn, Share

I speak and have taught Spanish, and also have enough Indonesian and Tetum (East Timor) to teach you basics or help you improve your language skills. I particularly love the chance to chat in Spanish. And there's English of course!

I am a poor singer, dancer and guitarist but love music and am not ashamed to give all three of those things a go regardless!!

What I Can Share with Hosts

English, Spanish and/or Indonesian. Cross-cultural experience. How to judge a good cup of coffee. Volleyball basics. Quality conversation and a listening ear. I'm always up for a jam session, voice and guitar.
