ABOUT ME

I come from a small town of 700 people in the middle of the United States. I lived on a farm for the first 18 years of my life, and once I started college, the world has been my oyster. I moved to Northern India the summer of 2016 and spent my days working in a special needs school and my evenings meditating with the Dalai Lama, learning a lot about how the world works. I made my way to Florence, Italy and spent a year there studying art and eating oodles of good food. Summer 2018, I studied in Rome, Italy and ended an Eastern European backpacking trip early because I got caught in a near-death riot. Life goes on! I was living in Seattle, WA and traveling to NYC and Guatemala for work each summer before the pandemic struck. Now I'm living in Milwaukee, WI attending graduate school for social and economic justice communications and yearning to travel once more. Upcoming trips: Cancun, Mexico (March 2024), Alaska, USA (June 2024), Azores, Portugal (August 2024), Ireland (October 2024)

I'm a naturally introverted person with a killer taste in music and a perhaps not so killer taste in fashion. I like to think I'm subtly funny, but maybe it's too subtle.

I like weird people and quiet nights in and night walks and lazy mornings and avoiding tourist traps and chilling in cool cafes.

I want to live a life of meaning, full of rich experiences and no regrets. Life is meant to be lived, to be loved, and to be enjoyed.

I'm an old soul who dreams in color, writer of the extraordinary, artist of the mundane, film maker of the obscure, a vinyl record aficionado, hippie, idealist-realist-pessimist, and good-music-junkie. I’d love to write for NatGeo Traveler, open up a bed & breakfast in the mountains, pen the next great novel, direct great movies, find a man with a beard that’ll let me artistically style it, eat good food, own a red ’69 Volkswagen Westfalia Van, hike the John Muir Trail in California, and live life to the fullest (not necessarily in that order).

I believe that travel is more than just going places, seeing some cool stuff, and leaving. I think travel should be intentional - getting to know the local customs, culture, obscure places, and THE PEOPLE. Honestly, the more I travel, the more it becomes abundantly clear that people make the place and really impact my perceptions of locations. I think Couchsurfing has the potential to bring people together and make lasting connections, if both parties are willing to put in the effort. I am willing to put in the effort and I hope you are too!

I truthfully enjoy nearly every single kind of music. Particularly, I am enthralled by folk americana, though rock of all kinds is near to my heart. I love Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros, David Bowie, Pink Floyd, John Denver, and everything in between.
As for movies, I LOVE Lord of the Rings, Star Trek, Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, travel flicks, and documentaries. The Way and Into the Wild are perfection. Her and The Lobster are current obsessions. (In fact, I wrote my undergrad research thesis on the role of loneliness, nostalgia, and technology in Spike Jonze's Her!) I also enjoy BCC, particularly Sherlock and Doctor Who.
In regards to books, my interests are once again diverse. I love dystopian more than anything, followed by fantasy and science fiction. I've also have a soft spot for YA novels and travel guides.

I hiked with a small cedar sapling to the summit of a mountain in Guatemala and planted it, along with my worries. It was truly uplifting.

I also accidentally fell into the canals of Venice. That was a fun one.

I love cooking and learning things in the kitchen! We can share meals together, which naturally means having good conversations over the food, as well. :) And we can definitely share a beer or two in your favorite spot in town.
