Hey I'm Anna
California born and bred. Went to university in WA, lived abroad for a few years in Asia, and now call PDX home. I've traveled internationally since before I could walk, and it has played a huge part in who I am today.
I absolutely love Portland. It's such a beautiful place. Even though I've lived here a while, there's still always something new to discover in the city and surrounding areas.
The two and half years that I lived, taught, and traveled around Asia were some of the best experiences of my life so far and I miss it everyday. I've also spent time in Europe and Australia. Next up on the travel agenda is backpacking through Latin America and Eastern Europe.
"If your dreams do not scare you, they are not big enough."
― Ellen Johnson Sirleaf
"Only a life lived for others is a life worthwhile."
― Albert Einstein
“…travel can become a compulsion. It keeps us away from friends and loved ones – even when we’re back. When I’m away, I often yearn for home. When I’m home, I’m listless. I seem no longer to fit. History and literature are filled with characters who see Asia, or Venice, and can never go back to the way they were.”
― Anthony Bourdain
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I've met so many interesting, incredible people through CouchSurfing. I love hearing their stories, perspectives, and what life is like where they're from. Spending time with people from all over broadens my worldview and makes me a better person. Also, experiencing a place from a local's view is the best way to travel.
I've surfed in China, Japan, and a few places in Europe. CSers also offered to meet up and show me around in Kobenhavn, Koln, London, and Amsterdam when I was on my solo backpacking trip last year and it made my time in those cities even more incredible.
I've also hosted quite a bit in China and Oregon. I'm always up for meeting new people and showing them the amazing city of Portland.
I love sports and the outdoors. I run a lot and love to play soccer, tennis, volleyball, and Ultimate Frisbee. I also love watching football, basketball, hockey, baseball, and soccer. Portland has both a NBA and MLS team (and a triple A hockey team), so if you want to go to a game, let me know!
Other interests include coffee, mountains, water, flags, languages, maps, reading, photography, art, local microbrews, social business, and spending time with friends and family.
Music, Movies, and Books
Music: Sigur Ros, Mumford & Sons, Coldplay, Jack Johnson, Ed Sheeran (love pretty much all kinds though)
Movies: Remember the Titans, Forrest Gump (not a huge movie/TV person...I'd rather be outside)
Books: I'm usually reading about current events, business, travel, global development, human rights issues, and non-fiction about different countries
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Watching the sunrise over Angkor Wat.
Hanging out with Cambodian kids and teaching them how to throw a Frisbee.
Spent a summer by myself in Australia when I was in high school.
Teach, Learn, Share
Teach: Well I've been a teacher for the past two years, so I could probably teach you something about English and/or business. Also, I think I know quite a bit about Chinese language/culture and I'd be happy to share about that as well. I could also teach you how to throw a Frisbee and (almost) anything you want to know about sports.
Learn: I have a list of things I'd like to learn how to do in the near future. At the top of the list are how to play the guitar and speak better Spanish. If you know how to do either, I'd love to practice with you! I also love learning about other cultures and countries and people's lives. So please feel free to share! :)
