Sobre mí

I am originally from Little Rock, Arkansas in the US but I’ve lived in Germany - mostly Regensburg where I am now - for over half my life. I'm on the older end of the Couchsurfing spectrum, but I think I'll enjoy it just as much as the younger generation on here!
Back in my 20s, I was a member of a similar organization called Servas, but they don't even have an app so when I stumbled upon Couchsurfing, I decided to try it!
My family in the US was very involved in an exchange student program called AFS. We had exchange students from all over the world stay with my family for a whole school year or often on a short-term exchange during years that we didn't have students for the whole year. At 17, I was an AFS exchange student to Italy and loved it so much that I went back and did my 3rd university year at the University of Florence. When I retire - or maybe even before - I plan to move to Italy😊
I am also still a volunteer for AFS in Regensburg, Germany where I currently live. I came to Germany just to do a 2-month German language course and ended up staying - now I've been here for over half my life and in 2024, I even got my German citizenship.
I work full time at a company that manufactures silicone products for the medical industry, i.e. catheters, drains, tubings and enteral feeding buttons. I work 2 days a week from home and on the other 3 days I'm in the office that is thankfully close enough that I can walk there.
I live alone, but I have 2 daughters who are grown and they still live close by. I often dogsit for my younger daughter's dog, Pauli, which is short for Pauline, so if you stay with me, you can't be afraid of dogs!
I played a lot of sports when I was younger, but now I usually only go to the gym. However, I've just joined a "fun" (slow-pitch) softball team, so not really competitive. For anyone who doesn't know softball; it's similar to baseball. I played fast-pitch softball competitively for many years and I'm also a baseball and NCAA basketball fan - my Alma Mater, Duke University is famous for always having a great basketball team and I'm always trying to find ways to watch the games and have been known to get up at 3AM just to watch a basketball game!

Por qué estoy en Couchsurfing

I'm on couchsurfing in order to meet new people and experience different cultures! I will also be travelling to Andalusia at the end of November for a conference and am staying on for a week afterward and hope to find some interesting people to stay with. I’m also looking forward to hosting and I live in the historic city center of the of the most charming cities in Europe!

Música, películas y libros

I like Pop and Country music and I love to sing! I enjoy documentary films and comedies. I read all kinds of books, but my favorites are true stories or fiction that is based on true stories - and also comedies. (I love to be able to laugh! 😊)

Algo increíble que he hecho

When I was on a safari in Kenya, there was a couple with a reconstructed Ultralight aircraft with 2 seats instead of the normal one seat. They were contracters who were counting animals for the WWF. In the evenings, they sold flights around the area in order to make some extra money. So I bought a trip.
At sunset, we flew around Tsavo National Park with Mt. Kilimanjaro in the distance and giraffes, water buffalo antelopes and zebras below. It was pretty amazing!

Enseña, aprende, comparte

I love languages and I taught English at the university here for many years - I wasn't a professor with the English department, but the university has a program for learning languages taught by native speakers as additional coursework even if they are not studying the language for a degree.

I also love eating and my favorite videos to watch on facebook are about cooking😅I'm no master chef, but I do enjoy cooking when I have the time!

Qué puedo ofrecer a los anfitriones

I'm not really sure what I can share - it depends on what the hosts are interested in. As they say, "I'm a jack of all trades and a master of none"😊
