About Me

My friends have always described me with four adjectives: blunt, sweet, adorable, and bubbly. I'm not really sure what this means to other people, but I tend to get along with almost everyone I meet - as long as they don't judge me based on nothing but people they know I'm friends with. My personality can tend to take on traits of people around me - if that makes you uncomfortable, I'm sorry. It's a subconscious habit that I have as long as the trait doesn't clash with my personality and conscience, it actually makes me feel more at ease somehow.

I am of Persian-Taiwanese descent, but was born and raised in America. While the "guess my heritage" game is fun for a bit when people ask "But where are you REALLY from?" it gets old after a bit. This is also apparently an explanation for the level of sass I can display at times. To clarify, I'm not usually sarcastic, salty, or whatever people use to describe personalities nowadays, I'm just a bundle of sass once I get past the polite part of my personality. There's a joke my friend made to describe me: "Take the sass out of the Iranian with a little of the anger and that's Susanna." Which I suppose makes sense, as I know a lot of sassy Iranians (my family among them) and I can sometimes be a bit savage with my sass.

The one thing I will always get excited over is food, it's probably the only thing my friends have seen me consistently get incredibly happy over and bounce around at the thought of. I write for Spoon University and am always open to new experiences with food and drink. In fact, there's probably nothing I won't try at least once (I say this at great risk to my own comfort) - and this applies to my cooking as well. I absolutely adore cooking and baking, it's my go to relaxing/happiness activity; my uncle is a chef and my father studied food chemistry. I think that the highest compliment someone has ever paid me was "Whatever you cook I will put in my mouth." Which is a really big deal to me as a home cook.

I currently study Applied and Computational Mathematics as well as Computer Modeling and Data Analytics at uni. So I'm often running a lot of code, modeling systems of equations, and analyzing data - which works because I want to work in data science upon graduating! There's a constant joke in my friend group that I'm a math major who can't count. Which is kind of true, I've gotten a bit bad at addition/subtraction and counting. But I can do calculus and differential equations in my head, so I think I'm alright with what I want to do.

In addition to way too much time spent coding and in STEM (not dissing it, I love it), I spend a lot of time blogging and pursuing other creative outlets. I used to draw all the time - mostly people, they're so fun to draw - but have recently moved to photography with my purchase of a DSLR. My friends and I trade off taking the photographs and being photographed because sometimes I want to do some really artsy shoots or they'd rather be behind the camera.

Due to my experiences and situations I've been in through my short life, I am an incredibly open person when it comes to lifestyle and other topics. I don't judge people based on one aspect of their personality or life - there are certain things that I will draw a judgment on someone for but they are extreme, few, and far between. However, sexuality and lifestyle choices have never been a big deal to me. Several members of my family and a large portion of my friends are part of the LGBTA community and I'm incredibly liberal. But, I will never push my ideals and beliefs on another person as I think everyone should come to their own conclusions - even if I'm not fond of homophobes, bigots, and the like. I believe that there's no point in fighting a battle with willful ignorance.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

As someone who has gone abroad by herself and stayed with a host family, I've found that the best thing that you can do to learn about a new place is to throw yourself in with abandon and have a local guide you. I love travelling and couchsurfing makes it more viable for me than AirBnB and I get to meet new individuals who can hopefully connect with me instead of just wandering around a city by myself.

Interests

I'm a naturally curious person about almost everything and love to explore new things. If there's something I haven't tried and I am physically capable of doing it I'll most likely be willing to do it and might just fall in love with it.

Teach, Learn, Share

I am an artist by choice, a mathematician by strength. I can easily help someone through multivariate calculus or teach them the fundamentals of drawing or photography.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I come from a multi-ethnic background. I'm used to respecting people's privacy but also can provide an outsider's logical opinion when it comes to beliefs, personal matters, etc.

I like to think that I have a rather intelligent mind and can challenge those around me in intellectual discussions.

I also am a fantastic chef, so I can cook for you.
