ABOUT ME

I love meeting new people. I start off quiet but once I feel comfortable you'll find I'm a pretty opinionated and chatty girl. I love to sing, bake, dance and have really deep conversations. I really love hearing people's stories and learning about what the people around me bring to the world. That's where my inspiration comes from.

PHILOSOPHY

I would say I believe in the power of people above all else. People coming together for a common cause is true strength to me. Whether that cause is to have a great meal together, or to start a revolution, people connecting, sharing, laughing and working together is what drives me in life. My friends and family are the reason I get out of bed in the morning. They teach me and challenge me every single day and I am so so grateful.

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

At the moment I'm looking to travel for a month and would love couchsurfing to help me do that. I've never been hosted by a couchsurfer, but I've only heard positive experiences so I'm pretty excited about it.

兴趣

The most important thing in the world to me is finding and nurturing connections with other people. That means I spend a lot of time talking and thinking about what blocks us from connecting with each other. I spend a lot of time learning and talking about identity - race, class, gender, sexuality - because I believe a better understanding of those aspects of ourselves and the world allows us to connect on a much deeper level.

音乐、电影和书籍

My all time favorite book is Everything is Illuminated by Jonathan Safran Foer. I read it at least once a year and always find something new. The Harry Potter series is my comfort reading, I love it. Lately I've been getting more into non-fiction. I'm reading a few books right now - The New Jim Crow (which is blowing my mind) and Women who run with the Wolves which is making me feel connected to my feminist roots! It's pretty awesome. As for movies and music I'm really all over the map. I'll try pretty much anything except for scary movies. Never been able to enjoy those.

我做过的一件不可思议的事情

I studied abroad in Cairo, and while I was there I got to go to Dahab and Mount Sinai. The touristy thing to do at Mount Sinai is to hike up in the middle of the night and get to the top for sunrise. However, my group of friends and I decided to hike up in the afternoon and camp at the top. We got to the summit for sunset, slept on top of the mountain in the middle of a huge and amazing mountain range. We were woken up right before sunrise to the sounds of approximately 7 different religious ceremonies going on around us, sat up in our sleeping bags and watched the sun rise over the Sinai desert. It was truly incredible.

I guess I would say most of what I can teach about is social issues. That is my passion and the lens through which I see the world. Whether you want to talk about disparities in high school graduation rates of different social groups or who goes to which coffee shop in your town and why, chances are I could have a great conversation about it. As for learning, I want to learn about everything! I love doing things with people where I learn a skill but also get to know the person I'm learning with - like cooking? Or playing music. But really whatever you want to teach me I will be so excited about it.
