About Me

Grew up in Germany, have been living in Norway since 2008. Now a Norwegian citizen.

I love nature and the outdoors. Quite a traveler I guess: I enjoy both - adventurous backpacking on other continents (Patagonia is one of the most beautiful regions I've been to), but also exploring the stunning beauty of the Norwegian fjords, pretty much around the corner. Camping, sailing trips, or road trips in my Volkswagen van called Helga - I love it all.

Winter person - I just love snow. From November until May, I just try to spend as many weekends in the mountains as I can. Love to connect with other people who have the same passion for outdoor life.

In summer, a lot of my time is spent on activities around sailing - I'm an active member of a local sailing club and trying to learn lots about boat maintenance and technical stuff.

I also really appreciate good food and make my own ice-cream!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I started couchsurfing in summer 2009. My first CS hosts were fantastic (and we've become good friends over the years). I immediately had the feeling I had to give something back: host travelers and make them feel comfy at my place. Over the years, I've had guests from many countries, and amazingly I'm still in touch with several of them, and have met them for traveling together. I've crushed on couches in Norway, Germany, Denmark, Poland, Turkey, and Iran.

Music, Movies, and Books

Movies: I'm really into Scandinavian and Latin American drama movies. Arthouse. Visit our big international film festival in September!

Music: Big fan of Violet Road (from Northern Norway). Apart from that, I like britpop, especially Manic Street Preachers, Keane, Muse. But then, I also listen to other kinds of music, as long as it's melodic. Zaz is great, for example.

Book: Are you Dave Gorman? (by Dave Gorman and Danny Wallace)

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

A perfect day on a little island in Indonesia. We had been wakeboarding, were full of adrenaline and smiling from one ear to the other. The girl I was traveling with was to become a primary school teacher, and she spontaneously suggested a visit to the local island school. Why not? The kids were smiling at us, and the teachers as well. Then, we discovered a classroom full with 12 years olds - and no teacher :D ...so we started our own lesson ;-) Maths was easy to teach, English as well - we just wrote some words on the blackboard and asked the kids to write the Indonesian words underneath... Music was harder. They didn't want to sing for us, so we had to go first. Imagine two hyperenergetic girls with boardshorts and wet hair singing in front of an Indonesian school class! They were so amused that they finally sang us their National hymn :-) (I really hope they didn't assume that "An der Nordseeküste" - absolutely dreadful German Schlager - was OUR National hymn!!)

Teach, Learn, Share

There's plenty of things I've tried, but nothing that I'm an expert at - I'm a "refuse to choose" person! If it comes to outdoor activities, I could take you sailing in summer and skiing or snowboarding in winter.

The top three things I want to learm: open a bottle with a lighter, whistle on two fingers, dive-jump into the sea.
