ABOUT ME
Feel free to write to me if you:
1. Need the couch in the next 7 days or so. Last minute also works.
2. Need it for not more than 2-3 nights.
3. Are okay with not hanging out with me if my schedule is busy during your visit.
-----------
I primarily identify myself as a middle school teacher though I have shifted my attention to sociological research and I do work around race and racism in the US schools and caste in Indian schools. I think in another life I may have been a cook, but I make up for it by cooking as much as I can for friends and surfers. Apart from education, I am interested in environment, sustainability, veganism, ethical consumption, and such. I find myself in search of a life with fewer tensions between the largely capitalist structure of our society and my aspiration to live a more moral life.
I have taught in different schools in India for about 7 years and now am pursuing a PhD in education at UC San Diego. After having participated in the mainstream schools for many years both as a student and as an educator, I am now curious about examining how the 'school' as we know it is at the root of a lot of problems facing humanity. Toward that end, I am trying to understand how schools perpetuate or resist social inequalities particularly in primary/elementary school classrooms.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I have only been hosting for a while, but do hope to surf soon. I also like to meet and get to know fellow couchsurfers in the area.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
It's been a brilliant experience and every time I meet/host a surfer, my resolve to take time off to travel gets a bit stronger.

Music, Movies, and Books
Movies: I like movies that make me think and help me understand the world a little bit more than I already do. So I enjoy a wide range of movies - from 'trashy' to very thoughtful. Idiocracy and Okja are two of my favorites which represent the two ends of that spectrum!
Music: I enjoy any kind of music as long as I relate to the poetry in it. The instruments, as brilliant as they might be, don't do much for me without the lyrics.
Books: I used to read a lot and appreciated all books Orwellian. However, as I have grown older I have grown out of the notion of books for various reasons (ask me about it if we meet!). I prefer to just learn from people and from my experiences as much as possible.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Decided and took off on a backpacking trip to Himachal Pradesh in India in a matter of hours and had the best week of my life!
Teach, Learn, Share
I can teach English, Hindi and Marathi languages and I can try to teach how to teach.
What I Can Share with Hosts
Stories of people, especially children, that I have lived, loved, and learned with which constantly keep me grounded and push me to be mindful of my relationship with the world.
My favorite Indian vegan recipes and food.
