About Me

I grew up in and am a resident of Thornton, CO, although I am currently based in Rockford, IL. I earned my degree in Acting & Directing with a minor in English literature. I love history, photography, art and art history, food, and theatre, of course. I'm always open to experiencing new and exciting things, though!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I love traveling, but with my current profession, I need to make it as affordable as possible. I also love meeting locals and getting their inside hints, and this seems like an amazing way to do it.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: Honestly, I'm all over the place with music. I've always loved musical theatre, which is how I got into theatre and my degree field in the first place. I also love folk music. Recently, I've discovered that I also love ska. As far as mainstream music goes, I listen to Lorde, Adele, Mumford & Sons, etc..

Books: This is also a hard topic for me. I got exposed to a lot of brilliant literature as an English minor, but some standout pieces for me were Henry James' "Daisy Miller," Toni Morrison's "Sula," and Chaucer's "Canterbury Tales." I also really love murder mysteries. My favorite heroines are Phryne Fisher and Amelia Peobody.

I won't even begin on movies. It ranges from Hot Fuzz to the BBC's Pride and Prejudice to Scott Pilgrim (which, like Hot Fuzz, is directed by Edgar Wright, who is BAE) to a million other things. I do genuinely love good historical films, though. Hidden Figures is a recent addition to my favorites list.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I'm not sure most of what I've done could be classified as amazing. I've had amazing trips that have collectively been amazing. I lived in London for a semester, and even though a lot of what I did was probably pretty normal, it was an amazing experience for me.

Teach, Learn, Share

Teach: I can teach people how to tap dance. Anyone who can walk is capable, and I am infinitely patient (you have to be when you teach children aged 3-8). I can also teach acting and singing. I can also teach you to write a mean paper in MLA format. Which is less exciting than dance but also still useful.

Learn: I want to speak Spanish fluently. Duolingo says I'm 52% fluent. I have my doubts. I want to improve my art skills in all areas. Honestly, I'm just one of those people who is curious about everything and wants to learn as much as possible in my life. You can never have too much knowledge (unless you're Cate Blanchett in that fourth Indiana Jones movie).

Share: I know Rockford's hotspots and some of its most interesting people. I can also take you to dance classes, rehearsals, great eateries, and some really beautiful hikes. Ditto goes for Colorado should we ever find ourselves there at the same time.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I'm pretty shy, but I'm always open to new people and new experiences. I love children, so if you ever want me to babysit, I am totally down. I can sing, tap, or act upon request (though I do prefer a little warning, especially if there's a crowd). I've been told that I give very good massages, as well, so if you're stressed (and who isn't these days), feel free to just ask. I can cook meals if you want or need me to, as well. I also like to clean, so I can do dishes and sweep and do laundry and stuff.
