About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Meet people

ABOUT ME

I am currently a biology/nursing student in the United States, very close to Washington, DC. I also volunteer as an EMT (Emergency Medical Technician) on an ambulance at my local fire station. For the spring semester of 2009 I am studying abroad in Alicante, Spain.

I think I am a pretty low-maintenance guest. The only thing that I really need to have is a fan when I sleep and I have a small one that I travel with so as long as I have somewhere to plug it in, I am fine. As long as I have that, I am not picky about sleeping surface or sheets or anything.
I certainly don't need anyone to cook for me but if want to, I would be happy to share dinner with you sometime. If you have internet that I can use every once in a while to check my email, that would be great but again, it is certainly not required.
I have no allergies so pets are not a problem.

I am from the US so I speak English fluently as well as Spanish (I would say almost almost fluently). I have very limited French skills...I can understand more than I can speak but I am best at communicating with English or Spanish.

Finally, I am fairly environmentally conscious so I am good about recycling, turning lights and appliances off/keeping showers short etc. I am also very willing to chip in a donation for utilities used etc.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask!

PHILOSOPHY

I try to assume the best of people and treat everyone equally. I believe that the world would be a better place if people respected one another and the planet.
I try to be both as positive and as realistic as I can be at the same time.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I am new to CS. I have just surfed for the first time recently in Brussels and had a great time! I wish I had known about this website sooner. I currently cannot host but I hope to be able to when I get my own place back in the states or wherever I end up settling down. :)

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I couch surfed for the first time recently in Brussels and everything went really well. My host was very hospitable and cooked for me and showed me around the city. He was very cool. He even took me to a birthday party one of his friends was having and I got to meet a lot of other cool Belgians. I had such a great time!

Interests

healthcare (especially in Europe since I think most of their systems are better than ours in the US), politics, meeting new people, languages, trying new food (especially cheese and chocolate), baking/cooking, photography (though I am fairly amateur at this), drinking tea

Music, Movies, and Books

My favorite movie is probably either The Shawshank Redemption or L'Auberge espagnole...two very different but very good movies, in my opinion.
My favorite non-fiction book is Mountains Beyond Mountains and my favorite fiction book is The Things They Carried.
I am a fan of most types of music. I have really come to love Flamenco music after living in Spain. I also like Eva Cassidy a lot but not very many people have heard of her. But really, I do like most kinds of music.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I have helped save someone's life before...I mean I'm an EMT so that's kind of my job but it is still something that never ceases to amaze me. If I ever deliver a baby though, that would probably be the coolest thing ever.

Teach, Learn, Share

I would like to think that I know a fair amount about the medical and health field, particularly emergency medicine. i can knit. I am a bilingual pacifist vegetarian nursing student so I guess I bring that perspective to the table.
I would like to learn another language at some point in my life maybe. I also have become pretty interested in the European Union and what people think of it because I always thought of it as a good thing but coming to Europe, I have learned that people have pretty different views on it so that has been something that has been interesting to learn about.
