About Me

I'm from the UK originally but have been travelling and working abroad for the last 5 years, mostly in Asia. Now I'm settled in Istanbul, Turkey, and really enjoying getting to know this fascinating city with all its contrasts.

I'm open to trying new things, I'm a fast learner and I work hard. I love being around children - I taught preschool and kindergarten for 3 years - and enjoy getting creative and playful. I'm really interested in food from garden to plate; I love working outside, cooking and eating! I enjoy meeting new people and learning about different cultures. My philosophy is to enjoy life and seek happiness through simplicity, integrity, sharing and dancing :-)

I have a degree in English Literature and worked for some time in Health Promotion before leaving the UK to travel and teach English abroad. I have travelled extensively in Asia and taught in South Korea for 3 years before leaving to pursue a career in dance. Last year I completed my dance teacher training and have been performing and offering workshops as I travel. I'm interested in dancing of all kinds but specialise in belly dance (Oryantal) and mystical dance (dance as spiritual practise).

My goal is to learn more about community living, permaculture and alternative education. I've been lucky enough to experience these things in different countries and with different people along my journey but I wish to deepen my knowledge and continue learning and sharing.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Travel has been a huge part of my life for the last 10 years or so and I really enjoy finding new ways to keep it exciting and rewarding. For me the best experiences aren't those recommended by a guidebook but the small, day-to-day events and observations that come from trying to experience a culture from the inside rather than the outside looking in. Couchsurfing is one of many great platforms available to help us ensure we travel in a conscious, connected, sustainable way.

Music, Movies, and Books

I love to read. I like magical realism and so some of my favorite authors include Salman Rushdie, David Mitchell and Tom Robbins.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Kumbh Mela, India. Smoked a chillum with a naked baba who did utterly incredible, utterly unwatchable things with his penis.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can share skills in vegan/vegetarian cooking, information about living in Korea and the other countries I've travelled to, I can teach macrame, English and belly dance :-)

I want to learn anything you are passionate about sharing.

Countries I’ve Visited

Austria, Cyprus, France, Greece, India, Indonesia, Israel, Italy, Malaysia, Morocco, Nepal, Portugal, South Korea, Spain, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, Tanzania, Turkey, Ukraine, United States, Viet Nam

Countries I’ve Lived In
