About Me
CURRENT MISSION
To know all the things.
ABOUT ME
My job is to get good at being the kind of guy who'd be good to have around in apocalypses. My hobby is anthropology. I am currently an anthropologist's apprentice in Tampa, studying how the fuck the #3 state in agricultural output could have such shitty prospects, food-wise. I basically study people and food. I also study dirt: brownfields remediation and how policy and social factors can influence their life cycles.
I also tutor people, fix and ride bikes (both pedal and motor), garden, do the bookkeeping for my housing cooperative, and cook. I play really crappy guitar and do karaoke. I believe that human beings are not just about conflict, but also about cooperation --- I feel that empathy is a survival mechanism as much as it is an adaptation to having a lot of us around. I live in a housing cooperative in Tampa, where I manage the finances and labor to make it work.
PHILOSOPHY
I believe that groups of human beings can and often do make decisions in their best interests. The average person is not stupid: just overwhelmed.

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
Occasionally host CouchSurfers and others. I put my profile to 'maybe', because we all have to vote and come to consensus to have a guest. Understand this: seven people live here currently, but that doesn't make us unwilling to host guests. This means get a hold of us at least two weeks in advance.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
1) Seeing the American Southwest for the first time. Coming from a state with a lot of flatness and green vegetation all over the place, it was simply breath-taking to see horizon-to-horizon mountains and desert.
2) Getting on a motorcycle for the first time after endorsement training, and realizing I can do anything I wanted with the vehicle --- so I took it out to the nearest big road, opened the throttle wide, and was at 60mph before I could blink. Having that kind of speed and power under my control was awesome: being able to skillfully ride that bike in traffic was another story.
