ABOUT ME

"The world needs you to stop being boring."

If I could be so cliche as to describe my life with a quote, that may be it. I've grown up in Iowa and pursued an engineering degree, both of which may seem quite boring to others. But I feel that I find the unique and beautiful in even the most ordinary circumstances, so I'm excited to see what non-ordinary delivers. I'm so thrilled to get the chance to travel before I start a "real" job.

I'm driven, but don't stress over much. I'd say I'm generally a laid back girl, and like to have a good time. I'm a nature and animal lover, and if you know me, you know my pet bird Sebastian, who is the coolest.
I've got a pretty dry sense of humor, but don't let that mask my true compassion for the world. I like to find the humor and irony in most situations, and always seek out the positive.

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I'm traveling to Europe this summer. I would love to meet people local to the areas I travel, and become as immersed in culture as a tourist can. I hope I can do this through couch surfer!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

None so far! Hopefully we'll change that!

I LOVE rock climbing!! I also enjoy drawing, graphic designing; almost anything artistic. In slow winter months you'll probably also find me knitting.

I love a huge variety of music: rock to blue grass to blues to rap. Red Hot Chilli Peppers are my number one all time favorite.
As mentioned above, LOVE Harry Potter. Anything Barbara Kingsolver.

Climbing a handful of the 14ers in Colorado--phenomenal. I hope for the opportunity to conquer all of them someday.

What I want to learn most is other people--I find the more I open myself up to others, the more I learn about myself and about the world.

The general conclusion I've come to so far is that others are not so simple that they can be labeled. It's so easy to do, though, and we almost always do. If we don't like somebody, it's so easy to call them "mean" or "unpleasant", or to put them in some sort of box, write them off so that we don't have to think. But people are not so simple. There's always reasons and history behind everything anybody does, and if we realize that, it's so much easier to relate, and to accept those with whom we thought we were incompatible.
Of course, I'm still learning, so my theory may completely evolve with time. For now, I live by that notion, and try to keep the most open mind I can.
