À propos de moi

CURRENT MISSION

Up, up and away!

ABOUT ME

I'm a student in the fairly sterile (pun!) healthcare profession. Therefore it only makes sense that in my spare time, I like doing grimy things like having a bowl of hot pho made of questionable water source in a backyard alley in Vietnam, sticking myself into a tube to drift down a dodgy-looking Laotian river and squeezing myself into overcrowded Indian buses. Thus begins my fascination with backpacking.

PHILOSOPHY

As the famous (or not? Depending on what part of the world you're from. And also what era. What with all these new age punks around. But I digress.) Sheryl Crow song goes, "If it makes you happy, it can't be that bad.."

Yes, I just quoted a Sheryl Crow song as my personal philosophy. What?

Pourquoi je suis sur Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I've met some really great people with more than a few interests in common with me here. I will host when I'm in town - although I've got a bit of a problem staying in the same place for too long, so I tend to be roaming/bumming around elsewhere when possible!

Centres d'intérêt

I'm all up for a good time and that extends from reading in the park to getting absolutely smashed on a night out (coincidentally with enough drinks I might slur out a drinking challenge - please ignore me when this happens).

Morceaux de musique, films et livres

Fight Club, the only movie I have seen so far that does justice to its paper counterpart. Amelie and Jeux d'enfants are two of my favourite French movies. Precious, CRAZY and Y Tu Mama Tambien are some not-so-recent pretty great movies off the top of my head. I am pretty open to most movies, both arthouse and mainstream. Recently, fewer mainstream movies seem to warrant a watch though.

Books-wise, I'm one of those people who enjoy nothing more than burrowing my head into a depressing read. The Bell Jar and I Know This Much Is True are two really good books. I read too many books about survivors of various things (child abuse, cult polygamy, mental illness, learning disabilities, female genital mutilation, addiction... it goes on and on). On a less depressing but no less peculiar note, I enjoy a number of Chuck Palahniuk and Haruki Murakami books.

Une aventure extraordinaire que j'ai vécue

Following a family of wild elephants during a foot safari in Africa - absolutely brilliant!

Hot air ballooning in Egypt, over the Valley of The Kings....... and then finding out a week later that the same hot air balloon combusted mid-air with passengers in it. Good to know safety is a priority there.

Enseignez, apprenez, partagez

I.... can teach you how to cook the instantest instant food ever, with all the shortcuts accumulated from my student years (I take no responsibility for taste/outcome/kitchen-burning-down-incidents). I can teach you Malay, if anyone ever wants to learn a really simple but kind of irrelevant language (unless you happen to be working/living in specific parts of Asia). I don't know lots of things and am easily fascinated, especially by things I don't understand, so I'm sure you will find something to teach me about (or you can attempt to teach me some common sense/logic which I sometimes lack).
