About Me

Ciao!

I'm a mom to two joyful kids, 5 and 2, who keep me limber -- mentally and physically. I value warmth, fairness, and generosity, and admire people who have a strong enough sense of themselves -- and of their virtues and faults -- to take things with a bit of humor and perspective. Throw in some sarcasm and a liberal dose of cursing, and friendships shall be made.

And finally, I believe in emotional intimacy, even among relative strangers.

My friend Mohammed died last year, just 9 months after he was diagnosed with multiple myeloma. I never made it back home to see him, and in the messages I exchanged with him before he died, I never told him what he meant to me and how grateful I was for his friendship over the years. He was intensely private, so we never delved very deeply into our personal matters; and in his last months, I took no initiative to change that, feeling that it might sound too much like I was saying goodbye, suggesting that he might not make it.

He didn't make it. And all my words remain unsaid.

No need to make that mistake again. And, in my view, no reason not to extend that principle to all mortal beings. So, if I think you're clever, if I like how you do something, if you make me laugh...I'll just tell you, if you don't mind. :)

That's me -- rather, some random bits of me -- in a rambling nutshell.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Is it a terrible cop-out to say that I joined because I have in mind to visit a university town in May, where I'm sure hanging with university folk will be more illuminating than staying in a hotel? :D
