ABOUT ME

I live in a very pretty part of South West, Western Australia - Margaret River. It's a very famous wine region. (Home to Leuwin Estate, Voyager Estate and Devil's Lair - where I work!) And a famous surfing location.

Originally from England, I emigrated to Australia in 1999 and have travelled fairly extensively around the country. Great place to travel around!

I work at one of the major vineyards here, Devil's Lair, you may have enjoyed our wine - Fifth Leg or the Devil's Lair label.

I enjoy meeting new people and usually have a room for backpackers who pass through for the vineyard work or surf or both!

PHILOSOPHY

My personal philosophy changes, just about every year. Just when you think you know where you're heading, something happens to force a change in perspective.

I'm spiritual, but not religious.
I speak my mind but try to be constructive in my critic.

I strive to be honest and treat others as I would like to be treated.

There are two things in this world that can bring me back to reality and remind me how bloody marvellous it is to be alive - the sun setting and cream cakes.

Life is a cream cake and I'm on my second slice!!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Backpacking through India, Thailand and Australia really opened my mind to the total concept of there being more out there than just what you see on the way to work from the bus window.

It's a wonderful world and even the smallest village has someone willing to offer a friendly hand or invite you around for dinner, you just have to trust in people sometimes.

Besides, I'm selfish. I only help people because I love how bloody marvellous it makes me feel knowing that I've helped someone in some shape or form!

Intereses

Love my job. Check out the photos, 140 hectares or manicured vineyard. My lunch room is amazing! I like taking photos, tend to take more of everyone else! Music is a huge passion from Little Birdy (great band from Perth, WA) to Marilyn Manson, partly due to his theatrics.

I try to play golf, do a bit of fiction writing and coaxing plants in the garden to avoid snails. None of which are particularly successful at present.

Música, películas y libros

Movies, movies, movies!! Love movies. A couple of hours of total escapism. Favourites include Razor's Edge; Hellraiser; Little Shop of Horrors; Fight Club; Matrix; Mad Dog and Glory. They're just movies.

Books....I don't think I have a favourite. The only book I ever read twice was King Kong. I thought Brett Easten Ellis' American Psycho was just superb (although the film was a pile of poo) and Raymond Carver is simply enviable as a short story writer. Write now (get it!?) I'm reading books on viticulture and struggling with Henry Miller's Tropic of Capricorn. I must be the only person who doesn't like it?
