About Me

I’m a Malaysian-Chinese. I made my name Shinn so that will be easier for a foreign tongue to pronounce. But recently my friend asked me to be firm with it since Shinn has no connection at all with me. Well, I’ll try. My name is Xin Bei, if you’re trying, do it in English vocabularies “sin” and “bay”, you could get the pronunciation.

I was raised up in Malaysia till 18. I went to university in China and worked there till 25. I quit my job and started my cycling trip from Bulgaria in September 2017. So far I’m still in the same long trip. During the years, I’d published a travel book with my partner. Now I’m going to sign my second book contract. Currently traveling in England.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I started in 2012. My first experience was in Beijing. My host cooked me local dishes and soaked me with historical culture. That completed my trip in Beijing.

Interests

I read and I write. I do gardening. I cook and I eat. I listen to music and watch movies. I talk to people sometimes and I stay alone sometimes.

Music, Movies, and Books

W. Somerset Maugham is my favourite writer among all. I love ska and jazz, sometimes electrionic music. Always want to go to Cat Empire concert but haven’t got a chance yet. Have watched lots of good movies, now what I can recall is “Locke” starring Tom Hardy which I watched last month.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Took three days trekking 57 kilometers aroud Mount. Kailash above 4000-5600m sea level in Tibet.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I can make you coffee as I bring my Moka Pot along with me in the trip. If you love to know, I can share you my experience cycling in Europe. Most of the time, I prefer learning more about local culture from my hosts. That’s the main reason why I like staying with them.
