About Me

Hi everyone, I’m Taner!

I’m a 34-year-old guy living in London, but I’m originally from Turkey. I’ve been living in London for a few years now, working in the advertising industry as an Account Director, which means I’m often juggling different time zones and managing projects with clients from all over the world. It’s a fast-paced job, but it keeps me on my toes and gives me plenty of stories to share.

I’d describe myself as open-minded, easygoing, and always looking to learn from others. I have a deep curiosity for different cultures, perspectives, and experiences—that’s one of the reasons I absolutely love living in London. The city’s diversity makes it the perfect place to meet people from all walks of life.

In my downtime, I’m all about exploring new places—whether it’s checking out a new neighborhood in London, traveling to a new city, or just discovering hidden spots in my own area. I enjoy good conversations, whether they’re about life, travel, or anything in between. And yes, I’ll never say no to a beer or a casual drink to break the ice!

Interests

I’m really passionate about mental health, travel, and the occasional meme—they’re some of the things that truly make me feel connected to the world. I enjoy exploring new cultures, learning from different perspectives, and finding humor in the everyday. When I’m not working, you’ll probably find me grabbing a coffee at a local spot, sketching something on my iPad, or planning my next adventure. I’m always open to trying new things and meeting people with different hobbies and passions!

Music, Movies, and Books

I’ve got a pretty eclectic taste when it comes to music—anything from indie rock to electronic beats and the occasional classic. Some of my go-to artists include Tame Impala, Glass Animals, and Lorde. When it comes to books, I love a good mix of fiction and non-fiction. I’m a big fan of writers like Haruki Murakami and George Orwell, and I enjoy exploring deeper topics around culture and society. As for movies, I’m a huge fan of Lord of the Rings—the epic storytelling and world-building never get old. I also love Ferzan Özpetek’s films, which capture a lot of human emotion and beautiful cinematography. I’m also into thought-provoking thrillers and sci-fi, with Inception and The Matrix being some of my top picks.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Moving to London.

Teach, Learn, Share

I believe in the power of sharing experiences and stories to connect people. Over the years, I’ve learned a lot about different cultures, perspectives, and ways of thinking, and I love to teach as much as I can. If you’re interested, I can teach you Turkish, share some cooking tips, or even offer a few therapy tricks I’ve picked up during my 3 years of therapy. At the same time, I’m always eager to learn—whether it’s a new skill, a different way of looking at the world, or hearing fresh stories from someone with a different background. I think the best way to live is to keep a balance of all three: teaching, learning, and sharing. And Couchsurfing is the perfect place to do just that!
