About Me

To live life happily and peacefully.

My name is Mohamed Oukhouya. I am from Tagounite, which is very close to the Sahara desert, where I work. I love making music, especially singing and playing the drums. When we are in the desert, we often make music around the fire.
I work in a camp where a lot of international tourists stay, so I have learned to speak English, French and a bit of Spanish. At the moment, I am trying to learn German.
Because I have been working in the desert and with tourists since I was young, I also know how to cook all the Moroccan dishes. I can teach you how to cook anything. Tajine, Couscous, Omlette Berber and everything else.
I am a very friendly person, always polite and helpful, I am very interested in other cultures. And of course I will be more than happy to show you my culture, my village and the places around it. There are old Kasbahs nearby and the Sahara desert of course, there is a lot of beautiful nature.

I believe in treating people with respect and being treated with respect. I come from a traditional Berber Nomad family and I am still traditional in my heart.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Many tourists who stay in our camp have told me about couchsurfing. That is why I have decided to also open an account.

I have hosted all kinds of people in my family home. And some of them have come to the desert with me. In my family, we have a lot of respect for our guests. We want them to be happy and have a positive experience.

I am interested in music, singing, cooking, languages and cultural exchange.

Music, Movies, and Books

I love our traditional music in the desert, it is Touareg music mostly. I love to play and sing it with my friends. We have also a great international festival of Nomad music in M´hamid once a year, where Nomads come from all over the world, even from Mongolia.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

In the Sahara, we see many big shooting stars in the night. And the sky is beautiful in the night. It is very quiet in the night and in the nights, we often sleep outside when it is warm.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach you so many things. My language, drumming, singing our traditional songs, cooking traditional food, going to the Hammam, riding the camels and so much more.
Maybe you too can teach me a song or a little bit of your language.
