About Me

Hello! I am a 30 year old South African medical doctor with a love for exploring new places, meeting locals and drinking wine.

I grew up in South Africa however I also consider Italy my second home having lived there for a year as an exchange student and developed a passion and love for the Italian culture and language. I had one of the most incredible years of my life while living in Europe and have wished to emulate the rich experiences I had the privilege of sharing ever since. I lived with 4 warm host families who welcomed me into their homes with open arms and patiently taught me the ways of their culture and language. It is no wonder that my experience led me to the realisation that traveling is best attained when it is done authentically, by meeting with locals, living in their homes, and enjoying their everyday culture and lives.

After my year abroad in Italy, I subsequently completed a bachelor of science degree in biochemistry and genetics, with an added major in Italiano ;) at the university of Cape Town.

In 2020 I graduated as a medical doctor. I have since worked as 2 years in a Cape Town based hospital and aspire to become a obstetrician/gynaecologist with my love for women's health. Studying medicine has been such a privilege and I constantly find myself in awe of my resilient patients and the hope that they share.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Why am I couch surfing? Well, for the reasons as stated above.
I don't believe one can gain lots from a city by isolating oneself behind the four walls of a hotel or hostel.
To truly benefit from the culture, one has to immerse oneself oneself amongst local people. Some of my best travel memories were moments captured with locals I had the privilege of meeting.
And that is why I am a couch surfer.
