Overview
About Me
I believe I'm a very open-minded person who is always up for trying something new. I love the outdoors especially surfing, trekking and camping. I'm into my long distance running to keep healthy too.
I enjoy going to art galleries, reading, drawing, making things with my hands and cooking.
Back home I'm a surf coach, so I feel pretty lucky to get paid for being down at the beach doing what I love. I studied Fashion and Textiles at university and focussed on creating futuristic menswear that merged robotics and electronics together to form moving garments; no one really 'gets' what I'm about but I'm totally cool with that. I also work at a late night jazz club which has been pretty incredible and means that I get to watch a huge range of live music by local, national and international acts play at my doorstep.
I also work as a disability support worker for a teenagers with Autism which I love. It's hard work, but I find it fascinating building an understanding for how the human body works.
I have a passion for the Japanese culture and the language. I studied Japanese throughout high school and ever since I have a desire to go and live there for a decent amount of time and pick up the dialogue a little more fluently as well as getting a feel for all of the nuances and idiosyncrasies of everyday life.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
All throughout primary school and high school I have always hosted Japanese exchange students as I was studying the language. I was lucky enough to go on exchange to Japan and ever since that experience I've (unofficially) hosted dozens of travellers as a way to return the favour. I believe it's the best way to get a true and authentic perspective of the place you're visiting!
Interests
- Surfing - I'm no expert but I love getting on a longboard with a few of my friends.
- Long distance running - our bodies are pretty resilient and I'm all for walking or running than taking the car or train.
- Music - there's not a genre of music that I've come across that I don't like but my favourites would have to be folk, afrobeat, electronic and blues. I'm all about getting out and dancing.
- Swing Dancing - I've just started learning! I'm super keen to get out and practise if there are any other lindy hoppers out there!
- Self-sufficiency -
as well as being as self-sufficient as possible. I have a vege patch, fruit trees and a pretty extensive herb garden at home too which keeps me busy! All in all, put me in/on/around a forest/beach/cave/tree-house and I will probably implode with happiness!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
- Juan de Fuca 6 day trail in Canada! So damn tough, but totally got through it...even if we were all eating pasta with honey for every meal by the end ;)
- I was the only graduate selected from Western Australia to participate in the L'Oreal Melbourne Fashion Festival's 'National Graduate Showcase'. It was an amazing experience having my collection being rated in the top 12 finalists Australia-wide.
